Hello everyone,
As you all know, ad-hoc meet-up was arranged on 12th April, 2021 i.e. Monday to discuss BIOS configuration work to move forward with the discussion and conclude it favorably for everyone.

Just for your information, here are few important links regarding this discussion:
[1] An existing proposal that discusses BIOS configuration on a single machine
https://github.com/metal3-io/metal3-docs/blob/master/design/baremetal-operator/bios-config.md
[2] The implementation of this specification is here
https://github.com/metal3-io/baremetal-operator/pull/302
[3] Another proposal for batch configuration of BIOS across multiple machines
https://github.com/metal3-io/metal3-docs/pull/173

There were two main concerns due to which an ad-hoc meeting was arranged:
  1. The incompatibility of these two approaches exist simultaneously.
  2. The timing of implementation of [3]. [2] is already implemented and concluding review while [3] is in the design phase. Due to [2] already being delayed for more than a year, it would be preferable to merge it till [3] is developed as a complementary or even alternative approach.
First of all, thank you so much everyone for joining the meeting and having a very fruitful discussion. Following are a few meeting notes which I thought are important and to be shared with everyone. Feel free to comment!
  1. None of the PR is an obstacle for the other one. Therefore, both PRs ([2] and [3]) will be observed.
  2. Considering the time required for the implementation of [3], PR [2] could be merged before.
  3. Following are the few points to be considered while Implementing both PRs:
  • Make sure the same parameters don't get added twice in the apply_configuration clean step.
  • Each clean_step takes a reboot so need to be careful in the number of clean steps.
  • Make sure no extra parameters are added in PR [3].
Once again, Thank you everyone for your time!

Warm Regards,
