Subject: DCMI Libraries Community Meeting, 14 October 2009, Seoul - DC-Lib AP
To:
DC-LIB...@jiscmail.ac.ukDear colleagues,
as Christine informed you last week the DCMI Libraries Community will meet
next week in Seoul (14 October, 14:00 - 17:00). One of the issues is the
revision of the Libraries Application Profile. Considering the Singapore
Framework I made a first draft for objectives and scope, functional
requirements and an Entity Relationsship Model and published them in the Task
Group Wiki. You will find these drafts here:
* Objectives and scope:
http://dublincore.org/librarieswiki/RevisionDraft
* Functional Requirements:
http://dublincore.org/librarieswiki/FunctionalRequirements
* Entity-Relationship Model:
http://dublincore.org/librarieswiki/EntityRelationshipModel
I want to discuss these issues and some terms used in the DC Lib AP (see
http://dublincore.org/documents/2004/09/10/library-application-profile/#Title
) in Seoul and hope, that you may join us. Unfortunately some of you won't
come to Seoul. So it would be great if you could send your comments till
Wednesday by this list.
Some questions I had in mind when I worked on the draft:
* objective and scope:
- Is the information in the draft sufficient?
- Is it clear why we need DC-Lib - also when DCMI/RDA is on the way?
* Functional Requirements:
- Are there more use cases and requirements than listed in the draft?
- Which use cases and requirements are really relevant for the DC-Lib?
* Entity-Relationsship Model:
- Is the FRBR Model adequate for DC-Lib?
- Do we need all the relationships I've listed because I found them in the
DC-Lib Terms?
- What is meant with relationship "has version" and "has format" - do they
mean a horizontal or a vertical relation? Can we use them instead of "is
realized through" and "is embodied in"?
- Is it ok, when we have no Description Set Profiles for Group 2 and Group
3 of FRBR but only refer to FOAF and SKOS?
I'm looking forward to your comments and an exciting discussion.
Stefanie
