Dear All,

As we continue our collective journey to help shape the future of the web, we wanted to share some exciting progress and outline the next phase of the Meta-Layer Initiative.

Over the past several months, we've deepened our focus on the role of AI agents and agentic systems within the Metaweb, while also advancing the technical, conceptual, and cultural foundations of the Meta-Layer. Here's what we've been up to:

🌐 Recent Developments

  • Federated Authentication & Proof of Humanity: We’ve researched resilient, decentralized identity models to ensure agency, accountability, and access across the Metaweb.

  • AI Agent Architecture & Containment: We’ve outlined an AI containment strategy using Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) to manage the risks of multi-agent systems. In parallel, we’re developing a practical framework for AI agents to assist with social presence, community building, information synthesis, and content creation in the Meta-Layer.

  • Quantum Cryptography R&D: We’ve explored a novel approach to quantum and AGI-resistant cryptography, which will be integrated into our trusted environment stack once viable.

  • Digital Pace Layers: Inspired by Stuart Brand’s Pace Layers, we’ve proposed a digital analog—a model that reflects the layered tempo of change within the digital world and the Noosphere. This serves as both a theoretical lens and a practical guide for Meta-Layer architecture.

  • Hamlet, Onchain: We’ve inscribed Shakespeare’s Hamlet on Bitcoin, extending the BRC333 protocol to the "immortalization" of information—part of our ongoing effort to make cultural memory persistent, accessible, and interactive in the Metaweb.

  • BRC222 Bridging Protocol: We’ve developed a JSON-LD compliant bridging protocol, BRC222, which uses ordinal inscriptions to create digital artifacts that connect disparate content across platforms and realities. This extensible format contributes to the digital artifact layer of the Pace Layers and supports the emergence of a universal context graph—linking both content and concepts.

  • Noosphere Mapping & Publication: We published “Mapping the Digital Noosphere” (read here) and inscribed it onchain to begin encoding the epistemic landscape of the Metaweb. View inscription

  • Credible Web Research: We’ve explored the work of the W3C Credible Web Community Group, identifying potential synergies for authentication, provenance, and semantic enrichment.

  • Presence Browser & Pitch Deck: We’ve collaborated on a pitch deck the Presence Browser, a potential flagship interface for Meta-Layer experiences.

  • Supporting the Library of Al3xandria (LOA) Project: We’re providing technical support to the emerging Library of Al3xandria, a pioneering initiative dedicated to preserving humanity’s knowledge, culture, and memory for generations to come. Our work includes development of the XFT (Experiential Fungible Token) protocol to anchor knowledge on Bitcoin. LOA is redefining the future of archival and educational platforms—combining blockchain, AI provenance, decentralized governance, and ultra-resilient physical storage (Nanofiche) to ensure that wisdom, art, and truth are safeguarded from loss, censorship, and entropy. This is not just a library—it’s a living, onchain and off-world (i.e., on the moon) archive of civilization itself.

📣 Next Steps: Podcast Series + Call for Input

We’re now preparing to generate a podcast series to explore the Meta-Layer’s potential and invite broader conversation and involvement in the Call for Input, which seeks to gather community feedback on:

  • The most desirable properties of the Meta-Layer
  • Real-world use cases people want to see enabled
  • Governance, identity, and economic models to make it all work

We’ll be using AI and AI agents in this participatory process—curating, summarizing, and helping facilitate context-rich engagement across mediums.

🏗️ Collaborative Essay: Help Build the Foundation

Guided by insights from our kickoff meeting (and the recommendations of Vint), we’re now co-authoring an essay that articulates the core principles, properties, and use cases of the Meta-Layer. This essay will serve as both a visionary blueprint and practical invitation for builders, thinkers, and communities.

If you’re interested in contributing to the essay, helping with the podcast, or participating in the Call for Input, we’d love to hear from you. We’ll be sharing more shortly—please stay tuned.

🧩 Join the Meta-Layer Initiative

This is your invitation to help shape a more sovereign, contextual, and intelligent layer of the web—what we’re calling the Overweb. Whether you're a developer, systems thinker, policy architect, or creative, your voice matters here.

(If you’ve already filled it out, no need to do so again!)

Let’s build the icing on the cake—the collaborative substrate that gives us all more ways to participate, connect, and co-create.

With appreciation and momentum,
