I'd like to see a dynamic defconfig based on a flag / variable. If you can postpone this i can submit a patch for this.

I am not sure we ought to add this complexity; I understand your goal and I really like it but for a longterm solution it seems better to us to move to linux-yocto package (which we cannot do until we have proper support in mainline).

Another point is that even without using systemd, devtmpfs and cgroups are good to have and personally I see no penalty in have them enabled by default.

What do you think?

I agree. The transition to linux-yocto would be a great step. Longterm
wins here. :)
