Hi there I am new to WOW but have had a Davis Vantage Vue for over twelve months. I was wondering if anyone has some tips on how to set up an automatic upload.

I have been floundering with formats and reports for some time now. I have no problem doing a manual file upload but that necessitates some data manipulation to get for example the correct min/max temps for the 9.00 to 9.00 period.

My Weatherlink version is 6.03

Any advice would be gratefully received
Thanks

There's no easy way to do it as far as I know. If you hunt around the web you'll find a way of doing it which involves running a small utility program in parallel with WL, which automatically reads a text file which WL, in turn, can be set to create and update automatically to a schedule. I've had my own code running to do this but it's not in a state for general use. But I know at least one other user (probably others too) has done something similar and to a better and more generally useful standard. It's written up somewhere (maybe even a link on this forum if you search through old threads) but sorry I don't have the link to hand.

It really wouldn't take much for the Met Office to write (or to commission) an add-on module for WL, which would then make it much easier for WL users to upload automatically, but for whatever reason this hasn't been done. It is eg what Weather underground have done and I really don't know why UKMO haven't followed suit. The module would be very simple - writing and testing should take maybe no more than 2-3 days work for a professional C++ programmer, if that, so shouldn't cost too much more than eg £1K.

Thanks for posting this question as I am considering purchasing the Vantage Vue. I notice that the Davis website (in Australia) has a solution for connecting to WOW (using Metobridge). Davis charges a little more than what it would cost if you bought and flashed the router yourself. Have a look here: http://www.davisinstruments.com.au/#!software--data-loggers/cp68

Just for the record, that link is to the website of the Australian distributor for Davis - other than handling the Davis products there's no ownership-type link to Davis. Meteobridge is the product of SmartBedded based in Germany and is not a Davis product at all.

Meteobridge is an excellent product, but it's important to be clear that the Davis logger can connect to only one external device. So if the logger is connected to an MB unit then it cannot also (easily**) be connected to a PC (running some other software). That's fine if MB does everything that you need (eg upload to WOW and Weather Underground for instance), but please remember that you can't also maintain a local database of weather data using eg Weatherlink, Cumulus or some similar software if the logger feed is directed to an MB unit.

** Actually there are ways of getting additional data feeds out of an MB unit using the 'Push Services', but that's a fairly advanced topic.

Very pleased to report I am now successfully uploading automatically every 15mins.  The preferred solution was to download Cumulus and the Davis CP210X driver and then try each COM port until successful. Mine turned out to be COM4.  I chose Oct 1st so I did not lose any monthly figures. Bit of a pain having to reset all the info for the weather station and the NOAA reports but I think I am there.
