Every time I log onto Facebook there's another group of guys trying to look like extras from Peaky Blinders, wearing flat caps, tweed waistcoats and lace up chelsea boots, standing with their legs unnecessarily wide apart.

I mean, it beats grubby five panels and purple leavers hoodies. Peaky Blinder boys look mature, like they have issues, they might say things like: "you don't want to get close to me". And everyone knows issues are hot. Especially when it is Tommy Shelby sat topless in bed, smoking a crack pipe.

Interestingly, it's not just uni students trying to look like a character from the BBC period drama, Brooklyn Beckham has been donning the look and so has David Cameron. Although he looks less like a gangster and more like a closed cup mushroom you'd buy from Tesco:

Then there is this absolute donny 8-year-old from Birmingham who was sent home from school for his Tommy Shelby haircut. "I don't want it to knock him what has happened, I don't want it to affect his learning" said his concerned mother after the incident.

They drink ale and even though they have never been in a fight they are thirsty for the moment someone spills their mates drink so they can square up to them. But there won't be razor blades in their hat seam, more like a Topman label.

They love going gambling but they are not fixing horse races, more like putting on William Hill accys on the new phone app. They might look quite sophisticated wearing a waistcoat inside a nightclub, but watch out for sweat seeping through the fabric. They would take the tweed off but all they're wearing underneath is a white school shirt from M&S.

These guys might look the part (ish) but don't expect them to have a hot, breathy Brummy accent. They will never say shit like: "BY ORDUH OF THU PEAKY FOOKIN BLOINDERS", or "ROIIIGHHHT!" In fact, they've probably never been to Birmingham. If they did they'd be surprised to find cobbled streets aren't a thing and the city centre largely consists of several Nandos and a massive Primark.

Objectively Cillian Murphy's trim is a bad haircut, one part promotor, one part bowl cut from your mum. He only gets away with it because of his glorious cheekbones. And guys keep tagging their selfies #peakyblinderhaircut, even though it just looks like they got a short back and sides with a bad fade. It's the sort of thing you'd complain to Tony and Guy HQ about.

If you dream about snogging Tommy Shelby, preferably with blood dribbling down his jaw or a black eye or something which indicates how fucked up and mysterious he is. Then head to the centre of town of any city in the UK and you can find your own version, be it the Essentials range.

If you are in the United Kingdom, you will no doubt be aware that that latest series of Peaky Blinders: the gangster style crime series set in Birmingham after the first world war. It is created by Stephen Knight and features the exploits of the Shelby family. It is hugely popular with people all of the world watching this via the BBC, with the hashtag #peakyblinders. In Birmingham there is another hashtag #peakybrum

Please please realise that although Peaky Blinders is hugely popular; it is fiction. People in Birmingham have accents like anyone else and if you look beyond your own prejudices you could employ some real gems!

I kinda think it's going to look pretty nice with my Vive Pro 1's amoled screens, Etsy Gear VR lens mod, and Index controllers. Also, performance shouldn't be a problem with my i9 13900k/rtx4090, lol! Cheers mate.

The game should work fine with much lower res using a GTX 1080 or so - but users of Meta hmds will experience a performance drop due to the game only supporting native SteamVR drivers - no OpenXR or native Meta/Oculus driver support for now (which is weird, devs might not know how much this impacts performance).

Btw, there is this problem of using OpenXR that the Steam hours counter does not work with Oculus OpenXR. I could play through Hubris using CV1, and Steam registered no minutes of playtime. In that way I would be able to put 20 hours in the game, complete the game, and refund within 14 days.

@RuneSR2 Strange that SteamVR doesn't track the Oculus OpenXR runtime. I'm sure that Steam will eventually fix that in the near future. Hopefully they will improve their current StteamVR Open XR while they are at it, lol!

I gotta say that Peaky Blinders looked very good with my VP1 but not being a Peaky Blinder fan I couldn't get into this game. I just tried the demo so there wasn't any need to refund anything. I kinda found a lot of the characters looked a bit too cartoony and gooney for my taste. Also, as an ex-smoker (quit 15 years ago) I wasn't thrilled to smoke in VR, lol! I have enjoyed 7th Guest a lot and will probably try out Vertigo 2 if it comes out on a steam sale. Also looking forward to Arizona Sunshine 2. Cheers mate.

Yes, you got the Quest low-poly models in Peaky Blinders, but textures for clothes have been nicely enhanced. I've never seen the show, but I can see Peaky Blinders is on Netflix, maybe I'll check it out.

Peaky Blinders has the same limited gameplay as the Quest version, and the Quest version did not get great ratings - many found it boring. I'm still enjoying Peaky Blinders, but it's no match for 7th Guest

Btw, I just noticed this comment on Reddit:

"Peaky blinders the king's ransom uses ASW also on Q2. I think that runs at 72hz which is very it feels very janky at times".

I was thinking Peaky Blinders looked better than usual Quest ports - upgrading the 36 fps Quest version to run at solid 80 - 144 fps, adding real-time lighting, fog/steam/smoke effects, dynamic shadows etc, makes me appreciate the PCVR version even more.

And devs do not want to make the Quest version look bad, and tell no one how much they improved the PCVR version. And now no one buys the PCVR version, because all think it's another low-end Quest port... Sigh...
