KEEP YOUR WORD (from the book Everyday wiser by Pastor Alejandro Bullon - reproduced with permission from the Inter-American Division Publishing Association)

What a person desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar. Proverbs 19:22.

I know people I can trust with my eyes closed. Life put me in touch with people whose word is worth much more than a signed contract. The Bible refers to these people as hesed, which means loyal, truthful and merciful.
What does fidelity have to do with mercy? Why are both words used in Hebrew as if they were synonymous? From the divine point of view, respect for the given word, fidelity to what you say, is an expression of love.
Is it possible to respect the word committed without having the fear of God in the heart? Yes it is; It is enough to be a responsible person. But with God, things can not be just the result of duty, but of love. Duty simply leads you to be a good citizen, but it does not bring you happiness.
Love works differently. It makes you a happy person and, as a result, you end up being a good citizen.
In today's text, the faithful man is contrasted with the liar. Solomon affirms that it is better to be poor than to be a man who nobody trusts.
In leadership circles. and administration, a lot of credibility is talked about. To say that you believe in principles is one thing. Living those principles is something different. People do not believe so much in what you say, but in what you do in relation to what you say.
The person who is filled with the love of Jesus will want to see other people happy and will fulfill with them the word pledged. The result will be credibility. People will trust you, love you and follow you. Now the verse "What a person desires is unfailing love" or his faithfulness makes sense.
Make this day a day, not only of words, but of actions. Transforms values into realizations, dreams into realities, obstacles into changes of course, risk into reward. You can, because in this struggle all the power of God is at your disposal. It is only to go to Jesus in a humble attitude and beg him to do what you can not do alone.
Start at your house, with your children. Did you promise them something you did not do? The values are not taught with words, they are transmitted by example. "What a person desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar."
