TO HAVE FOOD TO SPARE (from the book Everyday wiser by Pastor Alejandro Bullon - reproduced with permission from the Inter-American Division Publishing Association) #reflections
Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will have food to spare. Proverbs 20:13.
It is good to sleep after a day of productive work. The dream is the divine instrument to renew the energies. A normal man sleeps eight hours a day. If he lives 75 years, he will have slept 25 years. What would you do with that time at your disposal?
The advice of today's proverb is not against sleep, but against laziness. The Bible, especially the book of Proverbs, is full of warnings about the danger of sleeping when it is time to work. Work is the channel through which God wants to pour out His blessings for the human being.
Remain in bed, waiting for a crow to bring you bread to feed you, or that the handful of flour and oil that you still have left in the pantry, last forever, are attitudes of the fool. But aren't those miracles recorded in the Bible? If they are. They happened in extreme circumstances. God continues today willing to work miraculously in such situations.
However, the greatest miracle that He could do is to induce you to work. Wake up, He says, open your eyes, work and I will bless you so that you will get fed up with your own bread.
Start today with what you have in your hands. The only work that is never done is that which is not started. How will you get to the destination if you don't start taking the first step? Do not fear the difficulties. Don't face difficult things as impossible. All the extraordinary things that exist today, were considered impossible before someone accepted the challenge of realized.
Come here Jesus. Not to ask to be blessed by having a job appear, but by asking you to give you strength to go out and look for the job. Do what you can do. Leave the rest with Jesus. He will open the doors. But you need to ring the bell. He will bear the work of your hands, but you have to work. The formula for success is to pray a lot and work hard.
Make this day a day of much prayer and much action. Remember the advice of the richest and wisest man in the Bible: "Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will have food to spare."
