THE COUSIN OF THE LAZINESS (from the book Everyday wiser by Pastor Alejandro Bullon - reproduced with permission from the Inter-American Division Publishing Association) #reflections

All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. Proverbs 14:23.

Sabino likes to talk. There is nothing wrong with talking, after all, talking is a gift received from God. Sabino's problem is that he fabricated an enchanted universe of words, within which he seems to move easily. People look at him and don't know if he is joking or serious. Because of the conviction he puts into what he says, he gives the impression that he believes in the fantasies he invents.

Sabino is in need and deprivation. He escapes work as the cat escapes from the water. No job is up to him. He is already 30 years old and continues to hope that one day the job will appear that is just "at the level of his preparation".

Reading today's advice, it seems that Solomon knew Sabino closely. What the verse means is: "Stop talking and do something, because if not you will live in permanent poverty."

The word "work" used here in Hebrew is eseb, which literally means "painful instrument." This is a reference to work after the entrance of sin, when God told Adam that from that moment on he would eat the bread with pain.

According to today's verse, the wise man prefers work, despite the harshness, instead of "mere words" that only lead to poverty, while work promotes growth.

Most of the time, a lot of talking is the first cousin of laziness and it is so slow that sooner or later it is reached by poverty or dishonesty.

Don't run away from honest work. "In all labor there is fruit," says Solomon.

Any job, big or small, ennobles the human being. Crossing your arms and waiting for "a better chance" to come is the shortest path to worthlessness, and a useless life is premature death.

Today may be a different day in your experience. Do whatever comes into your hands to do, but do it! Life is like a machine, it never works if you don't press the button. It is necessary to start. Start your day and remember that: " All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty."
