Hi all,

Whilst using Mesquite for a while now, I've noticed a small visual glitch in the characters names. As I move along the matrix and enter states, the character names begin to overlap and become unreadable (I attach a image for better explanation). It is usually fixed for a bit by restarting Mesquite, but then randomly returns after a while. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this and has a more permanent fix?Screenshot 2026-03-24 100011.png

Many thanks,
Lewis

Hi Lewis,
I've not seen this, but I'd be curious if anyone else has. If you resize the window, does it get fixed?

It would help us track it down if you were able to find a precise way to reproduce it, e.g., open this file, click 6 times here, and there it is! Or, if you were to try that, and you find that the exact same actions (each time freshly restarting Mesquite) give variable results, that would be good to know. Otherwise, we could just play until it happens to us.

Thanks,
Wayne

Hi!
I had that problem too. When it happened to me, I believed that this problem happens when the nexus file is not fully synchronized in OneDrive, Dropbox, etc, but I'm not sure if that was the reason of the problem or not. The only solution I found is to minimize the window, then maximize it or close the file, and then open it again.

Cheers,

Abel

Hi Abel,
Thanks for the report! Given how Mesquite works, I don't think this has to do with NEXUS file synchronization. This is a purely a graphical glitch, not one of information content and file reading.  If it had been file reading, far worse things would have happened. Probably, it appeared to be connected to the file because it got fixed by reopening the file, but reopening the file does many things beyond rereading it — all graphical aspects of presenting the file are re-built.

Hearing that it gets fixed by minimizing/maximizing is useful.

Best wishes,
Wayne

Hi everyone, this has been happening to me for a while now, though I never reported it—it’s not specific to this latest version of Mesquite. It’s always happened to me when using Mesquite on Windows.

Best Regards

Luis

Thanks, Luis and everyone else, for these reports. Two questions:

If this happens again to any of you, could you resize the window, and see if it gets fixed?

Has anyone seen it on anything other than Windows?

Wayne
