touch-based scrolling speed

When I am using Mesquite and touch-based scrolling on a Mac (the trackpad or an Apple "magic" mouse), scrolling around the matrix is extremely fast and difficult to control. I frequently lose my place in my data matrix if I merely brush the trackpad and it's basically impossible to simply scroll a couple of columns at a time.

Changing my system's scrolling speed appears to have no effect on Mesquite (and of course will affect all other applications).

I'm using a 2021 MacBook pro, and I have Java 26.0.1 installed. Mesquite v. 4.03 (but I have experienced this with every Mesquite version I have used).

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Martin -- We'll look into this. 

To make sure we understand -- is it only an issue for you with horizontal scrolling (column to column) or also vertical scrolling (row to row)? When you say touch-based, do you mean clicking on the scroll bar, or not on the scroll bar but rather using a wheel/two-finger swipe on the trackpad?

Are you using molecular data or other categorical data? 

We use the matrix editor all the time with our own data, and haven't hit this problem yet, except that that we mourn the loss of single-column/row scroll arrows in the scroll bars, which Apple removed back in 2010.

By touch-based, indeed I mean the swipe gesture with the cursor placed inside the table area, no clicking, just using wheel-type motion or left-right swiping. No interaction with the scroll bar. I would say the very fast scrolling happens in both axes (up-down and left-right). However, it is worse in the left-right direction (which I suspect is just because the matrix is much wider than it is high).

I'm using standard categorical data (morphological).

I miss the single-column arrows too!
