I see that another discussion group was set up on October 7th, is this
just for sussexnet?

Not a problem but I don't really understand cos it seems like a
dilution of efforts and would have thought it would have been better
to keep it to one and all share ideas together.

Hi Helen,

Not a dilution at all!!!! It was started very rapidly when so many
Meraki members hit trouble!!! Its for all and has been aimed
specifically at Open Source Meshing software!!! There are a lot of
freenets and community based groups that want/need genuine open source
meshing software that can work on Merakis, Foneros, LW meshboxes, old
compaqs..... www.opensourcemesh.org will be a talking shop to
develop maybe 1 maybe several complete systems .... from the outset
it is a genuine open source solution. The group already in 2 days has
gathered 30 odd members and all are very welcome. The name says it all
"Open Source Mesh"

Sorry ... it was started very rapidly.....and i personally am very
keen to look at any meshing software...

no offence meant to anyone!!

Cheers,

Ian

It seems to me that having separate groups on specific projects is a
good idea provided that we all cooperate where possible. So (for
example) general debate on the merits of different routing protocols
would be better here than on the "opensourcemesh" group. To try to
develop a specific solution in this group could easily swamp it.

I would appeal for sticking to single topic messages and for care in
deciding and using topic titles in all groups. For example, having a
discussion on "cronjob issue for LW splash down" - important to some
of us - under "Greetings all!" makes it difficult to find. Apologies
to the contributors for picking this particular example.

I have joined the opensourcemesh group as the aims as set out by Ian
in this topic are just what I am looking for. The apparent intention
to use OpenWRT as the base seems ideal to me, avoiding the increasing
commercialisation (as I see it) of the otherwise excellent DD-WRT
project.

Regards,
Richard B.
