Dear Friends,
At our last meeting, and after consultation with our event timer, it was decided to move the event from April 9th to October 15th. ASU Polytechnic has expressed enthusiasm for having us stage the event at their pool facility. We hope to receive formal approval from ASU very soon. Check out the course possibilities below.
We have some important details to discuss at our January committee meeting. Please mark your calendar for Thursday the 20th at 7:00pm. Andrea, could we use the Parks and Rec Meeting Room at 200 South Center Street?
All best,
BERT

Subject: ASU Polytechnic Course Ideas
Mike McCaffrey and I visited the ASU Polytechnic campus a few weekends ago. The main part of the bike course circling Gateway Airport is very bicycle friendly. Long straightaways, smooth road surface, no traffic turning onto the course – even the views of the surrounding mountains are nice. There is only a quarter mile or so at the beginning and end of the course that will present any logistical challenges. You’ll have to use your imagination a bit on this course link, because it doesn’t show the newly completed Ray Road extension that now connects Sossaman and Ellsworth (the actual loop will be about 11 miles). But take look at the beginning and end of this proposed course and let me know what you think.

As for the run, here is one way we could do it so that it doesn’t interfere with the bike course. It’s a nice little 5k tour of the ASU Polytechnic campus. I like Mike’s idea to end on the track where there is plenty of room to stage the finish of the race.

We can do a 400 yard swim in the pool out there by repeating a serpentine course up one lane and back the next through all 8 lanes.
Your thoughts?
