Do you use MESA tubes or some other brand.

I was curious if any other mesa bassists use brands other than Mesa
for retubing. I have replaced the preamp tubes in mine with some NOS
sylvania and the one telefunken that I own.
I also tried various versions, 12at7 12ay7 to see if I could get a
different type of drive out of the passive channel.
I most recently used some Svetlana power tubes.Sounds great!
It was a bit cheaper than mesa tubes. But I am not so much worried
about $20 here or there, more into getting the best tone out of my
beast!

I am hoping to find some more info about changing the tube type. I
understand that these amps originally shipped with 6550's and were
later switched to 6L6's. I have also heard of bass 400's being modded
to accept KT88's for a bump in watts. Apparently KT88's can handle
more volts than a 6550.
