Dear Friend,

Remember that proverb about the lack of a nail? You know,

For want of a nail, the shoe was lost.
   For want of a shoe, the horse was lost.
For want of  a horse, the rider was lost.
   For want of a rider, the battle was lost.
   For want of a battle, the kingdom was lost.
   And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.

   Yes, a seemingly slight lack can lead to muck-ups. So it is with a newsroom's need of a competent copy editor.  The want of editors led me to write an article, "For Want of a Nail--And an Editor." You can read it at  http://www.mervinblock.com/?q=node/98.
