Tear Gas is the fourth studio album by American rapper The Jacka. It was released on June 16, 2009 through The Artist Records/SMC Recordings. Recording sessions took place at 17 Hertz Studios in Hayward and at Skyblaze Studios in Emeryville. Production was handled by MG, Roblow, Bedrock, Traxamillion, Cellski, Jeffro, Joe Millionaire, Kareem K, Lee Bannon, Lee Majors, Stagmata and The Inkredibles, with The Jacka serving as executive producer. It features guest appearances from Ampichino, Andre Nickatina, AP.9, Cellski, Cormega, Devin the Dude, Dubb 20, E-40, Freeway, J. Stalin, Jynx, Krondon, Masspike Miles, Matt Blaque, Mistah F.A.B., Mitchy Slick, Paul Wall, Phil da Agony, Planet Asia, Rydah J. Klyde, Sky Balla and Zion I. The album debuted at number 93 on the US Billboard 200, with 5,800 copies sold in its first week of release.[5]

This is considered the 3rd solo album by Jacka from the Mob Figaz. The album was widely acclaimed in the streets, particularly in the Bay Area, and included a wider reach of music and features from artists who were not typically associated with the Mob Figaz, including Zion I, Devin the Dude, Andre Nickatina and Paul Wall.

the jacka guide is a good start for people who are just getting their feet wet and the links to his features are awesome but i know he has something like 30 collaboration albums. anybody listened to those?

Peaking at #93 on the Billboard Top 200, the 19-track album is packed with features from both Bay Area and national legends, such as Andre Nickatina, Matt Blaque, E-40, Mistah F.A.B., Cellski, Zion I, AP.9, Dubb 20, J. Stalin, Devin The Dude, Paul Wall, Masspike Miles, Planet Asia, Cormega, Ampichino, and Freeway. The album features the hit singles, "All Over Me feat. Matt Blaque," and "Glamorous Lifestyles feat. Andre Nickatina"

Through the loose sketches of his sparse verses, the album is more than an attempt to reconcile good and evil within; it also refuses to let the outside world off the hook. In attacking his own moral failings, it gives strength to his assault on a wider system. ("Weed Farmer" is perhaps the closest a pro-pot record has come to "Nature of the Threat" in rap history.) Husalah's final verse to close the record has a dark poetic charge: "False hope tossed the rope around them tree limbs/ Horrific strange fruit hang from loops in deep Southern winds." But the album is more than its political content, too: it's a personal statement of vitality from an artist now in his 30s, who may be removed from the travails of his youth but still wrestles with their consequences. "We hit the club, takin' pictures bitches stalkin the kid/ I had the time of my life, I'll never be young again/ But now I only think money 'cuz I'm finally a man."

Although The Jacka never enjoyed lasting mainstream success, he was a Bay Area icon, beloved for his hard, gritty, uncompromising delivery and street narratives. His output was prolific, with over 20 studio releases and hundreds of other featured verses and songs. Most recently, he partnered with Philadelphia rapper Freeway for last year's critically acclaimed album Highway Robbery. His absence will be sorely felt not only in Oakland but in the hip-hop community at large.

Released in 2009, Tear Gas is the fourth and arguably most notable studio album from The Jacka. The 19-track album is packed with features from both Bay Area and national legends, such as Andre Nickatina, Matt Blaque, E-40, Mistah F.A.B., Cellski, Zion I, AP.9, Dubb 20, J. Stalin, Devin The Dude, Paul Wall, Masspike Miles, Planet Asia, Cormega, Ampichino, and Freeway.

Born as Dominic Newton, before later converting to Islam and taking the name Shaheed Akbar, The Jacka was a stalwart in San Francisco's rap community alongside the likes of Mac Dre and E-40. Originally from Pittsburg, he began his career in the early 00s as a member of Mob Figaz before striking out on his own. Most recently, he dropped Highway Robbery, a collaborative album with Philly rapper Freeway, in 2014.

this fucking sucks. I generally don't give a fuck when a well-known person dies but this hit me hard. love the dude's music.
on a bit of a side note: Si Mane, you wrote that you consider "the jack artist" one of the top 10 rap albums of the noughties. i'm curious to know, what would your other nine picks be?
