Hello everyone,
Before our summer break, Professor Claudia Cosio will tell us more about : Interactions between mercury and the aquatic plant Elodea nuttallii.
"Because of its toxicity and biomagnification in food webs, it is of the upmost importance to understand bioavailability of Hg to primary producers and its transfer from primary producers to higher trophic levels. In this context, I developed a research topic focused primarily on the mechanisms of accumulation and toxicity of Hg by aquatic plants under realistic conditions, combining field and laboratory studies. More specifically, I developed an integrative approach of the bioaccumulation of Hg. Field work resulted in the identification of Elodea nuttallii as an interesting model for biomonitoring of Hg. I thus undertook the characterization of the uptake mechanisms and effects of exposure to Hg in this macrophyte."
