Hello everybody,
This is a reminder that the new season of Mersorcium seminars starts this week on Thursday September 29th at 14:00 UTC. Rather than starting with a formal seminar, we will conduct a discussion session addressing the following topics:
1. How do we condense our ever-expanding view of the complexity of Hg-methylating or demethylating communities to a conceptual understanding of what microbial processes are influencing MeHg production and degradation?
2. There has been a lot of work looking at MeHg production along redox gradients and the effect of both the microbial community and inorganic Hg bioavailability. How do we incorporate these findings into a better model (both quantitative and conceptual) of MeHg production in varied environments?
3. What new advancements in microbial ecology, chemistry, microscopy, etc are necessary for improving our understanding of MeHg production in various ecosystems? How do we change our approach to our use of existing tools to do the same?
We will have some slides to get the discussion started but will be interested from hearing from each of you, so we welcome your active participation! Also feel free to share this email with whomever you think will be interested in attending. As always, the discussion will be recorded and accessible for those of you who can’t make it.

Thank you in advance for your participation, see you on the 29th!
