Subject: Women to Blame - exhibition at Liverpool Irish festival

Hi,

I just wanted to drop you a line with details about an exhibition we have opening this Thursday as part of Liverpool Irish Festival.

Women to Blame explores forty years of struggle in Ireland for contraception and abortion.

Over four decades women in Ireland have been subject to repression, shaming and criminal sanctions in their attempts to express their sexuality and reproductive rights.

Women’s bodies have been the subject of tribunals, referendums, court cases, accusations and censorship. This exhibition, which has been a year in preparation, is a visual historical narrative of the unequal treatment of women and girls in Ireland. We are pleased to present this powerful multimedia exhibition with a glimpse into a staggering archive in Liverpool. The ties to the city are painfully acute as many Irish women, forced to travel, have and continue to come to Liverpool to use the health services and are supported by Liverpool women while they stay in the city.

This exhibition has been brought to Liverpool by the TUC and Amnesty International.
