Someone from the neighborhood sent an e-mail query today:
Q. I would love more information on you upcoming CSA program. I will be at the market tomorrow evening and if there will be someone there with information, that would be great! Hope to see you there.
A. Thanks for your interest!Local organic CSA Eaters/Buyers are in abundance (based
on KC Food Circle's KCCSAC research and other findings), but
M.O.M.'s
CSA is still in the planning stages.
Key elements in development are:
- Finding a licensed kitchen in or near Merriam (M.O.M.'s 100-Mile Kitchen)
- Coordinating
with the manager(s) of the 100-Mile Kitchen to start processing produce
from member growers (canning, freezing, drying, saucing, etc...) for
sale in the non-harvest months.
- Determining which growers will commit to adding this new task
(participating in a year-round multi-grower CSA operation) to their
work load.
- Finding a low-rent (not the Merriam Marketplace) site to have the CSA pickup & drop-off.
- Coordinating cost-sharing and minimizing weekly logistical issues
(transport, storage, etc...) to avoid over-tasking individual growers.
Please
find me on Tuesday evening - I'll be near the center of the pavilion
selling Bread of Life Bakery goods, Nowachek Honey and My Neighbor Steve's Pasta Sauce.
