I upgraded from pixel 5 to pixel 8 pro and 'm having this strange issue with Notification sounds. When i select any sound other than "defult", the sound does not play. Basically I have to have my notifications sound set to defult or else i cannot hear any notifications.

Since upgrading to the pixel 8 pro my app has stopped playing sounds on notifictaions. If i go into settings it says app provided sound but plays nothing, however if i try and change this to a pixel supplied sound nothing plays. It feels like the permissision to access sounds is missing. Any thoughts?

Once you are in the notification area, which a can be done from many areas, simply go through each of the notification options and make sure the option is turned on and the settings are as how you would like.

The primary notification category will be WyzeMessage. you will see up to 4 of them, depending on how many sounds you tried. Basically each one corresponds to one of the notification sounds including the default. I have mine set the following way:

Note: If you tap on the Sound entry, you will be able to select from a list of sounds provided by your Google Device. If you opt to do this, I would only do this on the one which says Default Notification Sound as this will be Android Provided.

I have recently upgraded my phone to a Pixel 5 and once I have a few more weeks under my belt, I will publish a concrete review. One of the things I wanted to take care of right away was how to set up custom Ringtones and Notification sounds on it as, as we documented in a past post, the process is not as easy as one thinks.

I've had a Nest Doorbell camera installed for a few years now. Recently I upgraded my phone to a Pixel 7 Pro. In the last two weeks, I've had no doorbell sound from the doorbell. Neither has my wife, but she's running a Samsung phone. I've been searching for days now and going through everything suggested. I can find absolutely no settings in either the Home app or the Nest app with a label of "Doorbell". This gets real annoying as when the doorbell is pressed, I get a ding as if it were incoming text message, Gmail, soccer score or anything else. The doorbell does put a notification on the phone indicating the doorbell has been pressed, but since I may not hear a generic notification tone, I've been missing people at the door all too often.

While we don't support changing the notification sounds for your Pixel phone, we can point you in the right direction. Our friends at the Google Pixel Community are the perfect folks to help you with it.

For about the past month, my phone has made a mystery sound almost every day. Video of it occurring here: It typically happens some time after 9am, and it comes with no notification. As far as I can tell, there's no visual indication of what's happening at all. Does anyone know what this sound is??

Final thought: why would an app do this? Though I have no direct evidence of this yet, I suspect that an external app was giving me a lot of notifications, so I must have long-pressed one of those to silence that app's notifications, but somehow, the sound is still getting through. Perhaps a bug is present in that app.

I'd like to be able to distinguish between my Teams notifications and all my game, calendar, etc notifications but I'm not seeing anywhere within Teams where I can change that sound it uses. Is there any way to do that within Teams or somewhere else within Android itself anywhere?

@Magnus Fälth That page lets me turn notification on or off for various things, but I don't see anywhere I can tell Teams to use a specific sound different than every other app that gives me notifications.

@Mike Boehm Ok, I see. What if you click on the specific feature you want to change the sound for (in that list where you feel you are stuck)? I am able to do that, e.g. for Chats, and I then get to set the notification sound. Does this work for you?

@Magnus FälthYes, I can do that individually but what I was hoping to do is change All of Teams so that every notification from Teams would the same sound and have that sound be different from the 'default' sounds that is used for calendar reminders, game update, and everything else.

@Taylor_Cline On my Samsung S9 I had to copy the custom sounds into Internal Storage > Notifications Folder via a USB-C cable connection with my computer. You may be able to send via e-mail and save the sound file in that location too. FYI Samsung prefers ogg format.

@Forrest Hoffman

I can see the files in the notification folder but not the defualt ones that come with the phone.
Because when I go to the notification selection in MS Teams it only shows the Phone default tones and no option to select a different folder.

Is this what you see?

@Taylor_Cline Sorry, I misunderstood what you were asking. I thought you wanted to use a custom sound. Many of the app defaults are in the location with the apps. As it turns out it looks like Teams app does not allow changing the sounds. I was working on assumption of another app I had recently done the same. I changed the sounds for the Samsung SmartThings and Google Hangouts. I assumed that the API was the same for all apps but I was wrong.

I am trying to set a sound in MS Teams mobile (I have a redmi 6 pro) I followed the steps provided but after the first Chats option i reach a dead end. Under Chats I only have Show Notification / Floating... / Vibration / On the lock screen... but i do not have Advanced Options to then pick sound and browse the sounds in my phone.... any ideas?

I need to be able to turn the volume down at least 50% lower than the lowest setting possible. I have a dog that is sensitive to loud alarm sounds. It is this loud with all ring tone default or downloaded.

This is a default install using the web installer. Didn't modify any of the system files. Didn't install any apps that have anything to do with notifications. The ringtones were loud right out of the gate.

Yes turned all the way down to that very bottom mark it is too loud. Exactly as you show it 1 notch above muted as low as it can go. I can totally add notification tones however this impacts all tones on the phone both preinstalled and downloaded.

If you've recently picked up a pair of Google Pixel Buds, you might be slowly starting to lose your mind over those incessant, annoying notifications sounds. Google does not make it that simple to turn them off completely, but there are several ways to solve the issue. Follows these tips to listen in peace.

In this guide, I will explain two different methods of turning off either the notifications completely so that they don't disturb you, or a nice little trick to turn off only the audio ping that accompanies them.

When listening to music or a podcast on your Google Pixel Buds, the audio will dip and a ping sound will play every time you get a notification. This could be a WhatsApp message, an email via Gmail, or one of those Google app news alerts or similar. The reason this is the case is to allow Google's new spoken notifications feature to function. When you hear the sound, you can tap and hold one of the earbuds to have to notification read out to.

Whilst some may find this a cool feature, others like me will find it infuriating when you are trying to zone out for a while and settle into some music. Here are the best ways to solve the problem and kill those annoying notification alerts for good.

Alternatively, if you don't mind the notification ping but just want to turn off the new spoken notifications features, you can also do that quite easily. The option is nice and prominent in the Pixel Buds setting screen so you should have no problem finding it. Simply follow the steps below:

One of the quickest and easiest ways to shut off the notification sound on your Google Pixel Buds is to cut the off at the source. The Pixel Buds use the Google app, and its embedded Assistant tools, to manage notifications on your Pixel Buds, including the spoken notifications feature. What that means is, if you disable notifications from the Google app completely, there will be nothing to push those annoying sounds to your headphone when you are trying to listen to music.

There is a downside to this method of course, that you have probably already worked out. By switching off the notifications from Google you will be going without them completely. That means no news or football scores (that's all Google seems to send me) to your smartphone at all.

If you want to get rid of annoying notifications sounds on your Google Pixel Buds but don't to go without notifications from the Google app completely, there is a trick you can use to achieve this. It's kind of a hack because you are not really turning off the notification, but changing the default notification sound. Here's how to do it:

This is the method I currently use, and it works perfectly for me as I have my smartphone on vibrate mode at all time anyway. Naturally, this will change the notification sound across the OS, so if you rely on audio notification sounds, for whatever reason, then this method might not be ideal for you.

I lost it also. I have gone through all the motions of un-installing, re-installing, restarting my phone. Going into the app settings specifically the sold notification. The Cha-Ching isn't even showing up on the list of sounds to choose from. So I had to pick something else. BOO! I want the Cha-Ching back!

Sell on Etsy app > settings > notification settings > play cha-ching for orders and sales notifications. I have heard that on some versions it just says sale, it doesn't mention cha-ching, but is still the cha-ching.

I stopped getting the cha-ching, so checked into that today. On my Android, I had a month or two ago under SETTINGS, turned off some things under Notifications when I was going to be at a funeral and didn't want my phone making any noise. This was before I found the "Do Not Disturb" option. Anyway, I looked at that today, and sure enough, the volume slider for "notifications" was all the way to off. Geez. So many menus and sub-menus. Now I need a sale to know it works! p.s. It's especially fun for me (retired, but selling as a little side hustle online) to have it cha-ching when hubby has come home and we're eating dinner. Then he knows I'm not just watching TV all day Ya'll have a good weekend!
