Having trouble with the center circuit board in the dash, 1998 Volvo 610, N14. I have read and applied the info that has been on this form, and the repairs are short lived. So this time I want to replace the center section circuit board. The problem is.... no dash lights, no mileage reading, other warning light, I don't know. BUT always have oil presser, water temp and air presser(front and rear). Now that is when going down the road...... When starting. .sometimes , NO caution, No start up lights, No tack,, No speedometer, No Heater fan. retarder comes on when throttle off. I have replaced the key switch with little improvement. Shut it of... next time around every thing is good to go. I have used dielectric silicone on all connections. The plug in on the back of the circuit board seams to be one of the questionable spots. SO replacing the board with a new on. Looking for a outlet to purchase on? Dealership wants $400 + Is there something else going bad that I need to replace? Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm getting short on crown and doctor pepper..... Thank you OU812
Best idea is to buy the new dash cluster. $1200 or so but then everything works as its supposed to. Roger Jones did this and gave me his old dash which fixed my problems for now. But if/when it starts acting up, I'll buy the replacement.
Yes, you remove the 2 screws at the top and lay the dash towards you. Unplug it and plug the new one in. It is a dealer only item. You can try on E-Bay for the companies that rebuild them. Several to choose from.
I need a new DIC screen for my gen 1. Have talked to several repair places and been told good luck. Guess I will have to buy a whole new cluster. The DIC screen has several lines that are out and making it hard to read.
Imurphy907 I'm going to use " Aut0motive Scientific Inc " or ASI that I found on the net. You may give thrm a call and see what they can do for you. They are in Rogersville, TN. My interment cluster is in the mail to them today. Not cheap OU812
Up date on 1998 dash cluster........ my dash is still at the repair shop, ASI. Hope I will get it back before Christmas.....HA HA . In the mean time.. I need to move the TC... several miles. SO I found a dash cluster locally out of a 2000 with a N14. I finally decided to get it and for-go doing other quick fix, options. Anyway..... put it in and have major gages, oil, water, air pressure, everything power up as it shod. So got TC moved. There is some differences in the 2000 cluster.... I have a 7 gage and the one I used is a 10 gage cluster. Not all gages worked because my dash wiring did not have plug-ins for it. So I have extra dash cluster for sale. I have VIN of the truck it came out of .I've been told that it fits 1998 through 2002 VNL and 64T Volvo. Christmas is a long way off. Ou812
My main cluster is still working, the side LCD panel has no display for many years. But the night illumination of the speed and tach are gone/loose. I wiggle the wire behind. It will good for a short time.
Up date on dash cluster..... It took four + weeks to get the cluster to, repair, and back in the dash. I sent it to ASI in Rogersville, Tn. It looks liked new and when installed works great..... even the fuel gage works correctly. The cost total was in all is just short of $500. Still have a 10 gage dash cluster out of a 2000 VNL that had a n-14 engine. I did find out the 10 gage cluster has different plug in setup then the seven gage cluster. Every thing worked that I could plug in. Now on to other preventive maintain.... intermediate axel (RT 40) pinion seal leaking......maybe more. Just need to get apart and find out. Merry Christmas to everyone. OU812
theres actually 2 different clusters for 1998. they changed a bunch of wiring in the 1998-2002 versus the 1996-1998 years.. if you look at your MFG date in the drivers side door jam will tell you. and theres 2 different LCD's as well.
HI I have my cluster repaired and back in. Every thing seams to be working just fine.. What I have left over from the project is a complete cluster out of a 2000 VNL 10 gage cluster, N 14 engine. Mine is a 7 gage cluster. The plug in in the back are different , because of the added gages. I needed to use the TC (truck), it worked fine until I could get my cluster repaired and back in, (I was in a pinch). I want $380 and I will pay the shipping. I can send more info on the cluster if needed. Thank you OU812
Introduced in Europe in late 1996 for the 1997 model year and later in the U.S. for the 1998 model year, the Volvo S70 was an updated version of the Volvo 850 saloon.[19] The S70's body style was overall more rounded compared to its predecessor. Changes included a redesigned front end with new lights, fully colour-coded bumpers and side trim, and clear indicator lenses for the rear lights, as well as a redesigned interior. According to Volvo, a total of 1800 changes were made.[20]
Standard equipment was improved with remote central locking, heated & electrically adjustable mirrors, 4 airbags, power brakes with ABS and power windows being standard on every car. Trim levels varied for each market as did the equipment levels of the most basic trims. In the United States, the badging denoted the engine variant and to some extent the equipment level, whereas in Europe engine and options could be chosen individually. On all markets more powerful versions usually received better or upgraded standard equipment. The T5 and R were the series high-performance models.
For the 1999 model year, a minor facelift was introduced. Apart from very minor cosmetic changes, such as a slightly different Volvo badge on the front grille and US models now being equipped with side markers on the front fenders, most changes were done to the mechanicals. Volvo introduced its second generation side airbag which increased in volume to offer better protection.[21] WHIPS, Volvo's system to minimize whiplash injuries, was also introduced as part of the standard equipment. New engine management systems with drive-by-wire replaced the mechanical throttle on all turbo engines as well as an upgraded traction control system. Now including throttle as well as brake intervention it was renamed STC. The ABS was upgraded from a three-channel to a four-channel system, all-wheel drive models received thicker rear discs and redesigned rear calipers. All automatic transmissions were now equipped with adaptive shift-logic, replacing the previous 3-mode selection. A starter interlock was added to models with manual transmissions.
For the 2000 model year, a new 5-speed automatic transmission with adaptive shift-logic was introduced. It was only available on non turbo front-wheel drive models. The 10V engine variants were dropped and replaced by detuned 20V versions, drive-by-wire throttle was now also introduced for non turbo models.
With the S70, Volvo continued to offer a mid-size saloon. With a variety of models and options it was well received but was outsold by its estate variant the V70.[22]With engines choices ranging from 126PS to 250PS, and a diesel engine finally being available for the saloon as well as the Bi-Fuel, there was something for everyone. Market adjustments meant that outside of Europe no TDI or Bi-Fuel models were available.
Specialised versions for the fleet market, such as a taxi and police variant, were now available from the factory. Notable uses of police S70's were by some British highway patrol forces[23] and even some North American police forces.[24][25][26]
From the 1998 model year to 2000 a S70 AWD was offered.[27] It used the same setup as the V70 AWD, with the exception of the rear self-leveling suspension being an option rather than a standard feature. The only available engine was the 193 PS 2.4 L turbo with either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission.
The S70 R came with a unique leather/Alcantara interior that featured diamond stitching on the seats. Further styling touches were a special front bumper, blue gauge faces for the instrument cluster, the option to have the car in a R specific colour and a choice of unique 16" or 17" alloy wheels. Standard equipment was substantially upgraded over normal models with few options available such as a trunk mounted CD-changer, RTI navigation system or an upgraded stereo system. Production ended with the 1998 model year.
The light will come on for many reasons, only one of which is a bad control module. A bad wheel speed sensor will turn the light on, as will a bad electrical connection somewhere in the ABS system. Get another opinion, or a system diagnostic, before you spend all that money.
