OK so I have decided to spend the $70 on Project-Go so I can test it out with the trial of the server and it seems quite a good app at first glance, I have a question however, how do I share a document over the internet and not the local network? If I can only sync over the local network then it is of little practical use as I can pick up the phone and get an update.

Please advice on how to set up the server to be accessed from anywhere via the internet using an phone/ipad. I’ve read the documentation but that does not seem very clear.

Hi Dave,

you don’t need Merlin Server to use the Merlin Project Go.
Merlin Project Go can create its own projects on the iOS device, and or it can sync to files of Merlin Project when they are saved on the iCloud drive.

Another option would be to use the Merlin Project Go and open an existing file of Merlin Project when this is saved on the Dropbox folder or box.com.

To use Merlin Project Go with Merlin Server you need to proceed as explained in the Merlin Go documentation.

If your Merlin Server is only available over the local network, an already subscribed project  file on your Merlin Project Go will save and sync changes only when connected to the local network. Otherwise it will allow editing and save changes locally on the iOS device. Once re-connected to the local network, it will sync its changes to the server.

To setup Merli Server to be accessed from anywhere over the internet, you need to enable port forwarding on your router for port 7190 and the  tcp/udp protocols.

Best regards, Vicky

Thanks Vicky. I'll experiment with the port forwarding tomorrow and see if that helps.

Perhaps I should explain our set up. We are a small group, currently with no fixed server, looking to use a Mac mini. I was hoping to connect via a web browser on windows machines, as we used to do with Merlin 2, to do the editing but it seems this great feature is no longer available. I am looking to have people be able to access the server via the internet so that they can use their phones to update the project and also upload documents if required. Reading the literature, it seems that uploading documents (files) is not possible unless I host the files on the cloud drive, is this correct? I do like what I’ve seen of the Project Go app and I’m sure on an iPad it would be great (I’m using on a 6s).

I did do the router port forwarding and I can access the folder containing my project file, the file appears in the list (twice for some strange reason) but is greyed out. Interesting when I go back to the other server account, access over local network that file listing is also greyed out, any ideas?

Just ran Merlin and this time it hung when trying to enter a username and password.
