I hope you all have had a great few weeks off! I hope you can help me
with this!
I have just learned that our school district (Mountain View-Los Altos
UHS District) has chosen to not renew our license for Discovery
streaming (United Streaming). I had used this extensively for my
primarily ELL Integrated Science classes last year and found it
terrifically useful. I also selectively used videos for my Biology
classes, but the site contains content for a wide variety of classes.
For content information, see:
http://discoveryeducation.com/products/streaming/.
(Home site:
http://discoveryeducation.com/index.cfm ).
All classes that viewed the streaming videos (along with the
associated worksheets, suggested quizzes and discussion topics) liked
them and were always very engaged.
The cost is around $3000 for unlimited site use. The cost goes down
depending upon the number of schools using the service in CTAP region
5 (Monterey, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties).
If anyone can forward me a very short testimonial about this service,
this would help tremendously to convince our district to sign up.
Unfortunately, I have been given a deadline of Aug 15 (this Friday) to
attempt to get this done.
Also, if anyone knows of a good online streaming video site (other
than LessonOPOLY or YouTube), I would like to hear about it.
Thank you very much,
Tom Budd,
Los Altos High School Science
