Inorder to do two-sided scanning, since HP Smart won't do it, I understand that need to install HP Universal Scan - Full Feature Software and Driver. I downloaded it, and during the installation process they ask me to connect the printer to my internet router via a wired connection. Is this a REQUIREMENT or can I somehow use this driver with the WiFi connection that works well for everything else? Thanks for any help you can offer me.
After I attempted to update firmware (because of scan problems) with the HP Universal Scan - basic feature Software and Driver- (which is available as firmware for the HP Laser Jet Pro MFP M28w) the printer is now stuck in error mode! Its power light continues to blink with HP flashing in led display due to this corrupted (?) driver. The general instructions to get the printer out of error mode do not work.
As a result I can't complete set-up of reinstallation of all firmware because the PC/ printer can NOT find the USB connection and therefore i can not complete setup. I do not have wireless on my PC so it needs to be USB!
Meanwhile I've managed to add the printer driver partially to the PC but 'devices and printers' menu now show both this printer and an unspecified HP laserjet 3020 printer. This unspecified printer showed up on PC after installment of universal driver when the printer got stuck in error mode and when i plug in the USB connection to printer en PC.
The USB connection for completing reinstallment of firmware is not found because the printer now seems to be assigned & recognized as this unspecified printer (also). [the USB port IS working: it makes a sound when i [re]-connect the USB cable] When i try to use 'advance setting' under the 'tools' tab in the HP printer assistant to reset the printer in this manner i get an error message: "parameter is incorrect"
In addition: When i try to use the HP print and scan Doctor, it also finds a 'USB printing support' as a product on my PC, but as a not-installed product. When i prompt the next button, i get the message that "full software solution is not installed on your computer' and to click the 'get installer" button. However when i do so, i get an "404 HP (error) can't be reached webpage".... so frustrating
Found a post with similar issue of flashing power light and HP textcode in LED display, apparently the printer is in error mode and needs to be repaired or replaced ? That is really rather unacceptable because the printer is no longer under warrenty AND this problem is the result of a corrupted HP Universal driver which is available as firmware for this printer. Also just replaced the inkt cartridge with the official (expensive) HP cartridge so more money spent. NOT very pleased with HP right now
Unfortunately the powerdrain did not work as a reset for HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28w [It is not a HP 310 inkjet printer nor a stopped-printing issue] Nor did the provided links give a solution or answer to the problem as described elaborately above.
The printer remains in corrupted error mode because of the HP Universal Scan - basic feature Software and Driver 51.8.5837 - which is available as a firmware update for the HP Laser Jet Pro MFP M28w on HP support website.
Meanwhile I've tried every solution I could find on HP community and elsewhere to completely remove and reinstall the firmware, spent hours on this but to no avail! [because I cannot complete set-up as described above] I need a very specific answer to resolve this problem. General solutions do not work unfortunately!
I also think that the current drivers are corrupt. I tried to install the printer on two independent new PCs with Windows 11. I tried to install both drivers, I wanted to use the universal driver because I need the OCR function.
While the printer function sometimes worked, the scanner function was completely dysfunctional. Initially, I could scan one page but no second or third page with the universal driver. Later, I could not scan any pages. I could hear the scanner doing scanning, but the page nevers shows up in the program, it just stays white. The same happend if I subsequently installed the normal driver.
Interestingly, the scanner function works if I use the "HP Smart" app. It took me a while to convince myself to try the "HP Smart" app. The reason for this was that HP updated the program so that you can only use it if you have registered and logged in with an HP account. And I do not think that it is fair from HP to force use to register online before you can actually use the printer you purchased. HP, could you please explain why it is necessary to register a HP account to use the HP Smart app?

Look no further than VueScan! This powerful software can act as a universal TWAIN driver, which means that it will work with pretty much any scanning device out there. Whether you are using an old scanner or the latest model, VueScan is the way to get it working again.
TWAIN has been around for a while but it is no longer the standard way that scanner manufacturers implements their driver. WIA is another driver type that is available on Windows and it offers a simpler interface compared to TWAIN. Image Capture Drivers (ICA Drivers) are the driver format that are used on macOS. Some scanners may also come with their own proprietary software that you can use to scan documents. Depending on your needs, you may want to use one of these other types of scanner drivers instead of TWAIN.
Use PaperScan to import any image/PDF files, arrange them in any imaginable single-page/multi-page configuration, perform a wide range of image adjustments/enhancements, annotate them with sticky notes, rubber stamps, highlighter or arrows and save your work in various file formats including JPEG, TIFF, PDF and JBIG2.
PaperScan is simply universal while most of the scanning applications are dedicated to one scanner or one protocol.
The Professional Edition of PaperScan Scanner Software is the most complete Edition providing professional end-users withall features needed in document (image and PDF) acquisition, processing and efficient storage domains.
The Home Edition of PaperScan Scanner Software is a light-weight version of PaperScan allowing users with everydayscanning and processing needs to accomplish their tasks via a really affordable application.
Universal Scanning uses TWAIN, as well as WIA redirection to let any application using either technology hardware connected to the client device for scanning. With Universal Scanning there is no need to install any scanner driver on the server. Only one scanner is shown on the server regardless of the number of users and sessions currently in use on the terminal server.
By default the Universal Scanning driver is automatically installed with the Terminal Server, VDI Guest and Remote PC agents. Therefore upon adding a server to the farm the Universal Scanning is installed.
By default Parallels Remote Application Server renames the scanners using the following pattern: %SCANNERNAME% for %USERNAME% by 2X. Therefore if a user that has SCANNER1 installed locally connects to a remote desktop or published application, his scanner is renamed to SCANNER1 for the user by 2X.
To change the pattern used to rename scanners specify a new pattern in the Scanner rename pattern input field found in the Parallels 2X Remote Application Server Console > Universal Scanning node. The variables available for renaming scanners are:
Open the Parallels 2X Remote Application Server console and open the Universal Scanning category in the navigation bar. Click the WIA tab or the TWAIN tab. Highlight the name of the server you would like to modify and click Enable to enable Universal Scanning support or Disable to disable it from the Tasks drop down menu.
Samsung Universal Scan Driver is a solution when you need to use scanners of several models with the same computer or when you do not remember the exact model. The tool provides universal drivers for Samsung scanners thus depriving you of the need to install new drivers for the every new scanner connected to the PC.
To fix your Drivers problems you will need to know the particular model of the Scanner device you are having problems with. Once you have the details you can search the Scanner website for your drivers and, if available, download and install these drivers.
If you are unsure of whether or not you need to update your Drivers, or indeed which Drivers may need to be updated, you can run a Drivers scan using a driver update tool (you will need to pay to register this tool but usually the Drivers scan is free). This will allow you to assess your Driver needs without any commitment. Alternatively, you can use the device manager to check if there are problems with any of your hardware devices.
In many cases the answer to this is yes, however in some cases the manufacturers no longer make the Drivers available so you need to use a Driver Update Tool to install the missing Drivers. The purpose of such as tool is to save you time and effort by automatically downloading and updating the Drivers for you.
A Driver Update Program will instantly resolve your drivers problems by scanning your PC for outdated, missing or corrupt drivers, which it then automatically updates to the most compatible version.
The Lexmark Universal Print Driver provide users and administrators with a standardized, one-driver solution for their printing needs. Instead of installing and managing individual drivers for each printer model, administrators can install the Lexmark Universal Print Driver for use with a variety of both mono and color laser printers and multi-function devices.
