hello,

most of the time in QTP i have no trouble adding elements from our web
application into my object repository.

however sometimes it seems to wig out, and then no matter what screen
elements i click QTP tries to add the object as:

WinObject: Internet Explorer_Server

...which of course is completely wrong. it seems if i close QTP,
reboot, repeat, cross my fingers, do a little dance, then it starts
identifying properly again.

anybody seen this, and if so does anyone know why it happens?

thanks,
sm

This may be it -- QTP has to be open and ready to go prior to opening
the IE web app window. So if you close your QTP for any reason, you'll
need to close your IE window too. Re-opening them in the proper order
seems to allow QTP to "hook into" IE and properly identify stuff.

will continue to monitor.

Always start QTP process before starting the AUT process. This will
help QTP in learning the objects appropriately.

I had this sometimes with terminal emulator plugin and I discoverd that the "Host" Window has to be open prior to starting qtp or TE Plugin won't always recognize the Host Window as the Window from repository.
This is exact the oppisite of what you discovered but as you test Web app, it can be that every plugin behaves different.

Hello,

The other thing which I would like to add is check with the webpage zoom size and also the font size. If it differes from these settings, then also you face the problem.

Take care,
Anil
