Dear Colleagues,
As the world observe the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination - on March 21, UNEP in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Minamata Convention highlights the urgent need to address the harmful effects of skin-lightening mercury-containing products. Toxic beauty ideals are among the many effects of racism, with people worldwide too often feeling pressure to change their skin tone, putting their health at risk.
We count on you – the global community - to spread the word and join us in sharing the key messages: #SayNoToHate #FightRacism #MercuryFreeCosmetics
We encourage you to consult the UNEP page where you will find the curated messages and social media assets: https://www.unep.org/globalmercurypartnership/news/editorial/tackling-mercury-pollution-and-racial-discrimination-jointly as well as links to other resources, including the story featured by the Secretariat of the Minamata Convention.
Our strength lies in our diversity.
