Hello All,

There are a couple of upcoming events that are a great opportunity to check out gravel riding.  I've done both of these rides and they're well supported and give you the opportunity to check out some awesome new routes you wouldn't get to experience otherwise.  It'd be nice to have some locals with me on these rides.  Check out Super Pro Racing

Hi Ben,

Do you know what the distance & elev. gain will be for the Panoche ride 3-24-19? It's near where I live (Los Banos) and I've always wanted to explore that area more beyond the BLM lands on the opposite side of Little Panoche Rd.from the Mercey Springs resort, which were fun to prowl around many years ago on my mountain bike.

Yours, Mark Brux

Hey Mark,

It's an awesome ride and I think there are shorter route options available.  The full route option is around 78 miles.  The routes are pretty remote and there are some scary steep sections but overall it's a lot of fun and the camaraderie is great.  The support for the ride is great too all of the stops have great food and the end of ride meal is awesome.  I'm looking forward to doing both of them.  There are plenty of people that do the ride on hardtail mountain bikes; you should do it.

Ben--

So , can you describe to me what exactly is a gravel ride?  How is that different than a mountain bike ride --  Does it refer the distance, the terrain?  I've seen the "gravel bikes" in pictures -- I used to have a Specialized Expedition that was set up for off-road/MTB.....

Since this term "gravel ride" is now here to stay, I need to get hip as to what it means .........

And yeah, I love off-road riding more than anything on bike,,,,  So I may want to check this out.
