Hi,

It would be nice if we can create and update weekly PDF file for this
book and upload it.

I would be happy to offer my weekly services to help others.

Pl. guide me, how to do it.. so that i can be of some help for the
community.

Hi there,

That's a good idea, indeed. I was thinking also that we should create
a eBook version so the book would be readable for handheld devices
such as iPhones, Kindler (or something like that...), etc.

I will check that during the weekend.

Best regards,
Javier.-

I didn't work on the bridge yet. I'm planning on using a JRuby bridge and flying saucer but I didn't get to it yet :(

Yehuda has a bridge available if you want to look at it.

I was thinking of a solution involving the Prawn library into the merb-book application, but that is just a thought.

Best regards,
Javier.-

Maybe you can take a look at what we have used for "RoR 2.1/2 - What's
new?" book:

(Kudos to Carlos Brando for the original work)

You might have some luck using Prawn::Format[0], but to be honest,
Prawn really isn't designed for book level typesetting. I use
asciidoc for my book (Ruby Best Practices)[1] and it works great.
But maybe it'd be too much work to convert all the markdown to
asciidoc... Is there really no markdown2pdf utility out there?
Consider also HTMLDoc.

Whoops. linkage:

[0] http://jamis.github.com/prawn-format/
[1] http://rubybestpractices.com (shameless plug but will eventually
be under CC license)
[2] http://www.htmldoc.org/

asciidoc is a total PITA, ask the rails guides guys :p

The mardown => PDF converter using jruby and flyingsaucer seems to work great for wycats' book.

Hmm... I've been having no trouble with it, what specifically do you
dislike about it?
