For the 118th Congressional District shapefiles, all legal boundaries and names are as of January 1, 2020, with the exception of the 118th Congressional Districts and the State Legislative Districts, which are as of January 1, 2023. A special county layer for the state of Connecticut is included with boundaries and names as of January 1, 2022 for reference purposes because the counties in this state have been significantly changed since 2020.

The TIGER files do not contain the census demographic data, but merely the geospatial/map data. GIS can be used to merge census demographics or other data sources with the TIGER files to create maps and conduct analysis. TIGER data is available without cost because U.S. Government publications are required to be released into the public domain.

TIGER data published through February 2007 (2006 Second Edition) were in a custom text-based format formally known as TIGER/Line files. In 2008, data in shapefile format was published. Please note that shapefiles are not topological, therefore may create slivers when comparing TIGER/Line boundaries. This mismatch was not possible when the census TIGER files were available in ASCII format that was topological unlike shapefiles. This is step back for TIGER files. The Census Bureau has made the data available through WMS servers.[4] The data forms a base for OpenStreetMap in the US, and also was used for the initial import of US map data into the Waze navigation system.

See the documentation for the description of geographic boundaries and features contained in each geodatabase. Further details of the geographic boundaries and features can be found in the TIGER/Line Shapefiles technical documentation. These files will be released up to two times a year.

Select a layer below or connect directly to our File Transfer Protocol (FTP) site to download the files. The files are large. They are compressed, and the size indicated in the download menu is the compressed size. We strongly suggest you access these files through our site using an FTP client (anonymous log-in and password).

The TIGER files do not contain the census demographic data, but merely the geospatial/map data. We use GIS software to join census demographics or other data sources with the TIGER files.

The US Census Bureau has clearly stated the need for a geographical focus on TIGER GIS data. All of their data products have geographic ties with shapefiles, keyhole markup language (KML) or geodatabases.

TIGER has been releasing TIGER/Line files for over 20 years. In the 1980s, the US Census Bureau pioneered the creation of GBF/DIME coverage files. Dual Independent Map Encoding (DIME) was the encoding structure to store the geographic data. The file format developed for keeping the DIME-encoded data was the Geographic Base Files (GBF).

During this same era, the USGS was developing its own GIS data called Digital Line Graphs (DLGs) at a scale of 1:100,000. For example, it included United States transportation and hydrography boundaries. The two federal agencies collaborated to build a national geospatial database merging their data. GBF/DIME coverage files included DLG features.

Hello everyone! I've been downloading TIGER data per county from the FTP site one at a time, with some states having hundreds of files. I was curious if there was a faster way to download maybe all the files for each county for each state at once? Thanks for your time and help!

I have a small python script that I cobbled together from several sources. I use it to download all the files from a directory on an FTP site, extract the files and copy them to a file geodatabase. All the zipped and extracted files are deleted at the end of the script.

..is a so-called FIPS code. Specifically, this one is Coconino County, AZ. So all you need is something that provides a nice list of FIPS codes, then you can write a fun one-off program to concatenate URLS for each FIPS code, then download the corresponding tiger file.

The Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing system (TIGER) data, produced by the US Census Bureau, is a public domain data source which has many geographic features. The TIGER/Line files are extracts of selected geographic information, including roads, boundaries, and hydrography features. All of the roads were imported into OSM in 2007 and 2008, populating the nearly empty map of the United States.

TIGER/Line files are a digital database of geographic features, such asroads, railroads, rivers, lakes, political boundaries, censusstatistical boundaries, etc. covering the entire United States. The database contains information about these features such as their location inlatitude and longitude, the name, the type of feature, address rangesfor most streets, the geographic relationship to other features, andother related information. They are the public product created from theCensus Bureau's TIGER (Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding andReferencing) data base of geographic information. TIGER was developed atthe Census Bureau to support the mapping and related geographicactivities required by the decennial census and sample survey programs.

Note that the TIGER/Line product does not include census demographicstatistics. Those are sold by the Census Bureau in a separate format(not directly supported by FME), but those statistics do relate back tocensus blocks in TIGER/Line files.

To open a TIGER/Line dataset, select the directory containing one ormore sets of data files. The regions are counties, or countyequivalents. Each county consists of a series of files with a commonbasename, and different extensions. For instance, county 1 in state 26(Michigan) consists of the following file set in Tiger98.

The reader was implemented for TIGER/Line 1998 files, but some efforthas gone into ensuring compatibility with 1992, 1995, 1997, 1999, 2000,2002, 2003 and 2004 TIGER/Line products as well. The 2005 products havealso been reported to work fine. It is believe that any TIGER/Lineproduct from the 1990's should work with the reader, with the possibleloss of some version specific information.

Note that zero, one or more AltName records may exist for a given TLID,and each AltName record can contain between one and four alternatenames. Because it is still very difficult to utilize AltName features torelate altername names to CompleteChains, it is anticipated that thestandard reader pipeline for TIGER/Line files will be upgraded in thefuture, resulting in a simplification of alternate names.

These features do not have any geometry associated with them as read bythe OGR TIGER driver. It needs to be externally related using thePolyChainLink. The gdal/pymod/samples/tigerpoly.py script may be used toread a TIGER dataset and extract the polygon layer with geometry asa shapefile.

To get the city boundary layers you navigate to "Download Shapefiles" for the year you're interested in and drop down to the city boundary layer, which is called "Places". (which is not an intuitive enough name for me...)

I think you are looking for GIS data. For example, I found US Census Bureau TIGER/Line 2007FE Shapefiles Mississippi, United States although I am not sure what you get with the download nor how to exploit the information...

TIGER boundary files are shapefiles from the Census Bureau that are important for drawing legally compliant district maps. They are geospatial data, meaning they are designed to be used with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to create digital maps. The first release of TIGER files was in 1989, and they are continually updated and corrected by the Census Bureau.

TIGER (Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing) files come from the US Census Bureau. TIGER files contain information about many different features such as roads, rivers, lakes, political boundaries (state, county), and census boundaries (Block, Block Group, Census Tract). However, the RDH only hosts political and census boundary TIGER files for redistricting. They are available to download as polygon boundary shapefiles.

These boundary files do not contain demographic data. However, they do contain geographic entity codes (GEOIDs) that can be linked to demographic data from US Census Bureau surveys such as the decennial Census and the American Community Survey (ACS), or any other data set that is aggregated or disaggregated to a census geography.

The RDH hosts 2010 and 2020 TIGER boundary files. In addition, the 2010 boundaries on the RDH website include total population counts from the 2010 Decennial Census. Lastly, nearly all files from the census hosted by the RDH are available as shapefiles, meaning they have already been joined to the corresponding TIGER file.

Most redistricting bodies use census blocks or other census geographies as the building blocks for drawing districts. Census place geographies and county boundary data are important in the redistricting process to draw legally compliant district maps. Some state redistricting criteria require the minimization of county and city splits in proposed districts. Therefore, having accessible and up-to-date boundary files is important for analyzing whether redistricting criteria have been met.

Another example of the importance of TIGER files in redistricting is in defining Communities of Interest. TIGER boundary data that can be used for this purpose include, but are not limited to, Zip Code Tabulated Areas (ZCTAs), and American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian (AIANNH) boundaries.

TIGER files come from the U.S. Census Bureau. The RDH acquired these files from the US Census Bureau FTP. For 2010 boundaries, the RDH joined total population counts from the 2010 Decennial Census, pulled from the Census API.

Can anyone help me out with Tiger Electronics handhelds please. Whenever I try to load any of these Tiger games I am shown this message "There are known problems with this system. This system requires external artwork files...".
