Of course, our desktop app is only one way to use Slack. Slack on mobile is an essential tool for collaborating with your team while you are away from your desk, especially as people adjust to working remotely and develop new habits for collaborating with their teams. In parallel with our efforts on desktop, we have been rethinking our mobile apps to make them easier to navigate and optimized for using Slack on the go: quickly catching up, responding to DMs and mentions, sending messages, and getting work done with the shortcuts feature. We arrived at this design through a process of user research, iteration, and feedback from participants in our Champions network.

We know our users love using direct messages to communicate. Previously, your list of DMs was hard to reach on mobile. On iPhone, it was accessed via a lesser-known swipe gesture on the sidebar; on Android, via a dropdown from the sidebar. Both versions suffered from lack of discoverability, making the feature harder to use than it should be. Bringing recent conversations to the new tab bar as a dedicated list of your DMs makes getting back to your one-on-one and small group conversations much easier.

Managing your status while away from your desk has always been important, and even more so as we adjust to the new challenges of working remotely. People are constantly context switching and need a way to keep their team informed of their availability. Our previous design placed these controls in a menu that was hard to discover and easy to forget. Bringing You to the tab bar allows you to update your status, set yourself to away, snooze your notifications, and access your preferences from the top level of the app.

I've only recently had this issue for some reason, but starting about a week ago, huddles show up as incoming calls on my iPhone. I have Slack on my phone exclusively so I can send messages now and then when I'm away from my computer, and that's it.

I use the slack integration for your teams offering. I use 1password across all my devices. Over the last few days, I've been getting slack notifications saying that I've just logged in on my iPhone, even though I'm not using the phone at the time (and haven't for at least a couple of hours). I'm a bit concerned by this, as I'd hate for any spyware etc to be somehow controlling the app on my phone and snarfing passwords. Is it normal for the 1password app to be sending slack login notifications even when I'm not using it?

Hi @brenty, unfortunately, that page only appears to show me my last login time. I've used the app on my iPhone since it started behaving unusually. I'm hoping it's a bug in the slack integration, but there doesn't appear to be any easy way for me to tell. When the app is running in the background on the iphone (if that's even a thing), could it trigger the slack hook without me taking any action?

Apologies, it shows the last login for each of my devices. I've included a screenshot below. The thing is, it only shows the last login for each device, not a full history of logins. It's my iphone that I keep getting notifications in slack about, so other than the last login event, I can't get any more information than that. I'm pretty confidant that if I'm getting notifications in slack, and entry will also show up in this list. Next time I get a spurious login message, I'll check that it does.

As for your iPhone showing up in Slack notifications... this is very likely due to the new background sync that happens in 1Password for iOS. If the phone is unlocked, iOS now periodically asks 1Password to sync its data. This would trigger a sign-in in the background, which would result in the slack notification.

If I'm in Slack itself, I can access my photos and share from there (only useful on my organizations "puppies and kittens" channel), but TO slack from photos or Safari? Nope. It'll show Slack as an option, and even allow me to add comments, but once I hit send it just spins endlessly.

We understand that you are having issues receiving notifications from Slack on your Apple Watch. You updated the software, reset the content and settings on iPhone and deleted/reinstalled Slack on your iPhone and are still not getting Slack notifications. Let's start by taking a look at this support article and make sure that everything here has been addressed:

Can I link directly to message someone on my Slack team from my iOS app? If I just open a slack: url, it will open the slack app, but not linking to someone's message thread. I tried a few obvious ones:

The week's best Apple news, reviews and how-tos from Cult of Mac, every Saturday morning. Our readers say: "Thank you guys for always posting cool stuff" -- Vaughn Nevins. "Very informative" -- Kenly Xavier.

Slack is a distributed platform and during any given incident it is rare for all Slack teams to be affected. For this reason, we report our uptime as an average derived from the number of affected users.

First, it's easier on the eyes when reading and writing, especially in low-light conditions, so you don't get that blinding white straining your vision when you're in bed or up late. Second, it just looks cool, and it's another option aside from the default, and customization is always welcomed. Third, it can cut down on battery consumption on OLED screens.

Each build is available to test for up to 90 days, starting from the day the developer uploads their build. You can see how many days you have left for testing under the app name in TestFlight. TestFlight will notify you each time a new build is available and will include instructions on what you need to test. Alternatively, with TestFlight 3 or later, you can turn on automatic updates to have the latest beta builds install automatically.

When the testing period is over, you'll no longer be able to open the beta build. To install the App Store version of the app, download or purchase the app from the App Store. In-app purchases are free only during beta testing, and any in-app purchases made during testing will not carry over to App Store versions.

You can send feedback through the TestFlight app or directly from the beta app or beta App Clip by taking a screenshot, and you can report a crash after it occurs. If you were invited to test an app with a public link, you can choose not to provide your email address or other personal information to the developer. Apple will also receive all feedback you submit and will be able to tie it to your Apple ID.

When you send feedback through TestFlight or send crash reports or screenshots from the beta app, the following additional information is shared. This information is collected by Apple and shared with developers. Apple retains the data for one year.

The Slack Add-In for Outlook helps you move conversations along by bringing context from an email into a Slack channel or direct message. You can choose to add a message and include attachments along with the email as well.

You can delete the Google Device Policy app in the same way you delete any app from your device. When you delete the app, the managed apps and restrictions set by your administrator stay on your device.

Other times, you may want to remove someone from a channel and keep them in the workspace. Either way, Slack makes it easy to manage who gets access to what and when if you're the owner or an admin. This privilege works while accessing the tool from your favorite browsers, the PC app, or the mobile versions for Android phones and other devices. If you want to kick a Slack member from your workspace or channel, here's how.

Removing a person from Slack works in two ways. You can remove them from a channel, and they remain in the workspace. Use this option when you no longer need them on a project, assignment, or discussion. They can't enter the channel again unless you invite or add them.

Kicking someone out of Slack channels is possible on the mobile and PC apps, as well as browsers. However, you can't remove someone from the #general channel in Slack, as it's the default announcement group for every workspace. Also, the process isn't discreet. The Slackbot notifies people that you removed them.

When you remove someone from a Slack workspace, their account is deactivated. You can delete their profile information permanently if you no longer need it, but messages and files they sent before remain on the app. Deleting a profile cannot be undone.

If you decide to reactivate the account, you can add them back as a regular member. More user role options like single-channel and multi-channel guests become available when you upgrade to a Pro plan. As a workspace owner or admin, you can remove people from Slack workspaces on the desktop app or from your browser. The mobile app doesn't provide options for kicking out a member from workspaces.
