Playersare able to experience a completely single player experience by setting their farm visibility option as Local. This will cause the farm to go into offline mode and prevent others from joining. If your platform does not have an internet connection your farm will also automatically launch in Local Mode.
A feature that was added after the game's full release, Farm Together can be played as local co-op splitscreen up to 4 players. Extra controllers are required to use local co-op as the PC Steam version does not support split keyboard and requires other players to play using a controller.
If you decide to play in local co-op, simply connect a controller at the main menu and your farm will be automatically launched in offline mode preventing others players from joining. These extra players will be guests of the main account and won't let you sign on and play as on a different account. Also note that character customization is determined by your character presets. If you wish to have a customized avatar for each player you will have to create a preset before joining,
WARNING: All local coop players have FULL access privileges and you cannot adjust this using the friends or guests permissions settings. So make sure they know how to play the game and understand what they can and cannot do on your farm.
As the game's name suggests, the main focus is to farm together. Each player will grow their own farms while allowing others to join and help depending on your settings. There are two visibility settings you can choose from. Private which will allow your farm to only be visible to people on your friends list and Public which will allow your farm to visible to everyone playing Farm Together on your Platform. Note that Farm Together is not cross platform so for example you are playing on PC Steam then players on Nintendo Switch cannot join your farm.
To favorite a farm click right mouse button or click on the Favorite button at the bottom.Favorite farms will always show up on top of the farm list and will have a heart in front of the farm level.
ESC:Press ESC to see more information about the other people on the farm such as Player level.TAB:Pressing TAB will pop up the other people's names on the farm with an arrow pointing at where they are.T: Press the T key to use the chat feature.
I have recently started playing on the Xbox after years of playing on PC. I have logged 1000 hours in DST and 1000 hours in DS on the PC and enjoyed the game immensely. That said, I prefer to relax on my couch and the comfort of a controller in my hand is a welcome change to sitting at a crappy desk in front of my monitor. I am struggling a bit with the transition and wondering if more experienced Xbox players have any tips.
Another area of struggle is inventory use on the fly. On PC you have quick keys for inventory slots. I can no longer quickly switch between my first 3 or 4 inventory items or consume food that is in one of the numbered slots. How do you deal with this during an extended boss fight where cane/weapon switching might be important?
Cooking with an open fridge is also not very intuitive. On PC as long as the fridge is open it automatically directs one item at a time to the crockpot. This doesn't seem to be the case using the controller. Am I missing something, or do I have to just transfer the food to myself and then go around to the crockpots?
Lastly...how do you place things neatly in your base? I am struggling with getting my chest area to look nice. I'll admit that I was a geometric placement user and I just need to move on perhaps, but having grass/twigs/chests looking like such a mess is driving me a tad crazy. I won't even start on the seeming impossibility of a nice kitchen setup!
can't think of many tips tbh it's just getting used to different things; for refueling I prefer dropping items on the ground to using R2, makes the action faster but you need to have the item close to the fuel in your inventory. Like for refueling lanterns/minerhats/magi's.
Lazy explorer is just a pain to use on a regular basis, you have to unequip it when doing certain actions, like picking up lureplants for example(used to be so for cooking as well). Boss fights that require weather pains.. good luck with that one , you'll have to stay glued to the boss in order to cast it properly which defeats half of the purpose of this tool. I'd say if there is ever an option to not use WP's, go for that option.
I tried to put up some mini signs last night and they are nearly useless. You would think that the sign could be prioritized somehow to center on a chest. Like if you open the chest before planting the sign, it will center on that opened chest.
I couldn't agree more. I am curious how much the lack of activity in the xbox forum represents the actual player activity vs xbox players simply choosing to post this stuff in General Discussions instead. I feel that more activity in this specific forum might draw more action. I have really been enjoying the experience on the xbox and am very hopeful that the experience will improve over time.
I haven't even attempted any of the newer content yet. Does the brightshade sword not have durability? I am still working out how to more effectively operate with a controller. In the interim I have been using a beefalo almost exclusively so haven't even noticed that huge issue of the weapons not auto-equipping. I will start a new non-beefalo world tonight to test this out. I have noticed how awkward the layout is on the xbox controller for switching. I am forced to use the d-pad which I naturally attempt to use with my left hand, ie the same hand controlling my direction. I was at a loss on how I would handle this and thus started using a beef for all major combat. I happen to have an elite controller, so I wound up remapping some of the buttons for the d-pad to the back of the controller. I even use a few shifted buttons to give me some finer control in some cases, but that hasn't felt super comfortable yet. This is great if you have an overpriced controller, but for those with standard controllers I can't imagine weapon/cane switching being comfortable.
The movement of the weapon to inventory when switching seems to be similar to PC iirc. When the item is swapped out, it will attempt to go to the last inventory position it was in. If however something else has since taken that slot, then it appears to move. I am not sure if it switches with the item you are swapping with or if it moves to the first empty slot. On PC when learning to switch I would often spread items through my inventory so it was full. This forced the items being switched to swap.
What's with my character swapping targets if I leave target locking on? I left it on during a Klaus fight and it kept switching the lock to the deer. With target lock off, I tend to have issues where I often swing away from the mob I am attacking. Feels totally weird since on PC if you press F you automatically move toward the nearest mob to attack.
I saw another post that helped with farming. If you plant the seed before tilling the next spot, it won't ever move the same pile around. Still hard to get 9 crops in a tile, but it is much easier using this method than trying to till 9 spots and then planting.
Ok, here is an annoyance with the controller that I can't recall if it is similar on PC. When selecting rot to use as fertilizer, the the left d-pad if not over a fertilizable crop is 'eat'. Normally eat would be be a right d-pad action. The fact that it switches means instead of fertilizing my grass tuft, I fertilize myself . Feels like unless I am over a tilled tile, that the current right d-pad of fertilize plot shouldn't come up and that is when the option to eat should appear, keeping the command the same in all places.
We here at Game Infarmer are obsessed with Farm Together. Our Call of Duty and Overwatch clans have taken breaks from matches to grow crops and build sprawling fields. It's our current go-to game when we just need to relax.
The beautiful thing about Farm Together is you always make progress. Every dollar you spend brings more back. While you can't fail, farm growth can go slowly if you don't know how to bring in the big bucks. Below is a selection of tips that will get you moving in the right direction. Within a matter of hours, you should be swimming in cash, diamonds, ribbons, and more.
Plant trees together, put animals in pens together, and place fish in a large pond together. While the farm will look nicer when things are separated into their own fenced in areas, the larger fields and pens allow for the tractor to be used more effectively. Make sure the fields keep the tractor's 3x3 capabilities in mind. Having an extra row on the side just slows you down. This is one tip that will expand the size of your wallet quickly.
When you reach the level that the house unlocks, build it as soon as you can. Construction will take 4 full days, and cost a sizable sum, but brings new gameplay opportunities and allows you to earn tickets.
Gas is a precious commodity and you'll likely find yourself running to the station more than you care to as you tend to your fields. The upgraded gas stations costs a whopping 25 ribbons but greatly increases the time you can use your tractor.
If you are just starting out some of the unlockable content cannot be found mid-game. You'll need to back out of your farm to the title screen to access the customization options, which give you a cat or dog, allow you to design your own tractor, outfit, and more.
If you want to have enough cash to dive through like Scrooge McDuck, plant as many sunflowers, strawberries, watermelons, and grapes as you can. Yes, they take time to grow, but deliver sizable returns. Beets are also a good go-to since they are available each season and harvest regularly, when watered. Adding sprinklers to these money making fields can speed up the process.
Plant money trees (yes, they exist in this game) and regularly check your various stands to get the diamond payouts. Don't be afraid to invest in numerous stands of the same variety if you are harvesting a lot of the same thing.
