MY QUESTION: Quite simply: In the Sega model 2 emulator running in Hyperspin, how do you bring up a menu to configure the controls? I mean in MAME you would press Tab on the keyboard and select "Input - this game": What's the equivalent in Sega M2?
REASON FOR ASKING: I absolutely adore the game "Top Skater" which I've found in the Sega M2 emulator. It fires up and launches into the demo mode OK, but it won't respond to any of the controls for "Insert Coin", so I can't play it! Aahhhh! The torture! The frustration! None of the controls or joysticks do "insert coin". I plugged in a keyboard and hit Tab, but it didn't respond. All I want to do is bring up the menu in which I can assign "insert coin" to one of the buttons: How do I do that, if it's one of the emulators in Hyperspin?
Thanks so much for replying! I'll give that a try. That's right: It was a stand-up game, but I had a blast playing it with just keys on my laptop a while back. Happy to play it with a joystick and buttons, so hoping to get it to run on my arcade cabinet.
Incidentally, I also found the Top Skater ROM was in MAME but it didn't appear on the Hyperspin MAME "wheel" (I found it in the MAME ROMS folder just on the PC). When I eventually worked out how to launch the MAME one manually from Rocket Launcher, it was all glitchy and not running properly. The Sega M2 one runs fine, but I can't yet play it! Aaaahhhh!
If I hit "escape" in a game, it just goes back to the wheel: I mean it just exits that game and returns to the list of games available under that emulator. I don't see a "game tab" at all. What am I missing here? How do I just bring up a configuration menu?
You need to forget about hyperspin and rocketlauncher and open the emulator and configure your controls from that program. Once that is done you can launch from hyperspin with the correct control configuration.
I set the game exit hotkey in RL to use my tankstick preconfig with v. It works as expected. Then i set each game from the emulator. I just wish there was a way to configure all the games at once. Seems tough though due to the variety of shooters, drivers, ECT.

Im sure this has been covered before but cant seem to track it down I have the sega model 2 emulator up and running in GameEx but having
problems mapping a few keys , mainly where it has analog joystick for accelerate, brake etc.... i cant remap these to a keyboard key for example
forward arrow for speed up, down arrow for break etc, i've looked at the advanced keymap config but there is no option for this. how would i go about
assigning these keys for games. I've done the left right up down etc.... but cant alter the ones with a square box next to them
To reconfigure inputs, use the -config-inputs command line option. This will open up a blank window while printing instructionsto the command prompt window. Make sure that the blank Supermodel window is selected while following the prompts, otherwise yourkey strokes and inputs will not be captured. Supermodel has full support for joysticks, gamepads, and wheels.
To support manual transmissions in racing games, two methods for shifting gears are provided: individual gear selection (the default behavior)and sequential shifting. Individual gear selection simply maps each of the gears (1 through 4, or just Up and Down,depending on the game) to separate buttons. Shifting to a different gear is performed by pressing its button. Selecting the current gear whileit is already engaged will shift to the neutral position; that is, no gear engaged. Games start out in neutral gear, so you will need to shift at thebeginning of a race.
Sequential shifting shifts the gear up or down by one automatically. The special Shift Up and Shift Down inputs accomplishthese functions but are not mapped to anything by default. Use -config-inputs to set them.
Virtual On Oratorio Tangram uses a unique twin joystick configuration. To emulate this, two sets of inputs are provided: normaland macro. The normal inputs map each individual joystick. By default, Supermodel assigns them to twoanalog joysticks. For users of PlayStation-style dual stick controllers, this is the most convenient, and the most natural overall,configuration.
If you do not have two analog joysticks, macro inputs are provided to replicate the essential movements that are possible with the twinjoystick, tank-style controls. Turning, strafing, forward and backwards motion, jumping, and crouching can all be mapped individually.By default, they are not mapped to anything. Use -config-inputs to set them.
The video mode cannot be changed during run-time. Specify resolution on the command line using the -res parameter and use-fullscreen to enter full screen mode. Unfortunately, because Supermodel is still in an alpha state of development, it lacksa user interface and error or status messages will not be visible in full screen mode. All messages are printed to the command prompt.The default mode is a window at the Model 3's native 496x384 resolution. To run at 1024x768 in full screen, type:
The most important audio settings are the music and sound volume levels. All Model 3 games have a sound board and some have an additional MPEGmusic board. Because the relative signal levels of the audio outputs are not known, Supermodel mixes both at full volume.This is incorrect for some games. In Scud Race and Daytona USA 2, for example, the sound effects will overpower the music. Theopposite is true for Star Wars Trilogy.
Sound and music volume can be adjusted during run-time using the F9-F12 keys. Volume settings can be specified in the configuration fileas well, globally for all games or tailored on a game-by-game basis.
EmuDeck comes with a few Steam Input profiles to make hotkeys easier to use in a few emulators. If an emulator does not have a Steam Input Profile, make sure you're on Gamepad with Joystick Trackpad, otherwise some controls may not work.
In Game Mode, single click the game you would like to change the Steam Input Profile for, and click the Controller Icon on the right of the screen. Click the layout (whichever name it is currently set to) at the top, and you will see a drop-down menu.
For a few emulators, binding hotkeys to controller combinations is not supported. For these emulators, only binding hotkeys to keyboard keys or singular button presses was supported. For these emulators specifically, Steam input profiles were used.
In the previous EmuDeck update, a mix of touch and radial menu profiles were utilized to bind hotkeys to the left trackpad. In the current update, this has been replaced with the Emulator Button Combinations Profile and Emulator Frontends Button Combinations Profile profiles. For more details on these two profiles, see Emulator Button Combinations Profile and Emulator Frontends Button Combinations Profile. In short, these profiles bind keyboard hotkeys such as Alt + F4 to controller combinations such as Select + Start to exit a game.
To standardize the hotkeys with the other emulators, these profiles require a Steam Input profile that binds keyboard keys to button chords. These button chords allow you to use controller hotkeys with emulators that do not naturally support them.
Typically, this profile will automatically be applied to your shortcuts for Cemu, Citra, melonDS (Standalone), and mGBA (Standalone). To apply it manually, click the Game Controller icon in Game Mode, change the template to EmuDeck - Controller Hotkeys.
The frontends bundled with EmuDeck, ES-DE and Pegasus, come with a Steam Input profile for hotkeys. Typically, this profile will automatically be applied to your shortcuts. To apply it manually, click the Game Controller icon in Game Mode, change the template to EmuDeck - Frontend Controller Hotkeys.
The EmuDeck - Frontend Controller Hotkeys profile comes with two action set layers. The first layer is blank intended for emulators with traditional controller hotkeys. The second layer assigns keyboard keys to button combinations, intended for emulators that do not support controller hotkeys naturally. This layer only covers Cemu, Citra, melonDS (Standalone), and mGBA (Standalone).
For the most part, you will be using the first layer, entitled the "All Hotkeys" layer. However, when you are playing a Cemu, Citra, melonDS (Standalone), or mGBA ROM, hold the Start button to switch to the Cemu, Citra, melonDS (Standalone), and mGBA (Standalone) layer.
For the specific button combinations, refer to the various sections on this page depending on which emulator you are using. The hotkeys have been largely standardized and for the most part are identical across emulators. Do note there are still a few exceptions:
This profile is intended for emulator frontends such as ES-DE and Pegasus. This profile will not be applied automatically. To apply it manually, click the Game Controller icon in Game Mode, change the template to EmuDeck - Steam Deck Radial Menus. All emulators installed and configured by EmuDeck are included in this profile.
You may also use this profile with any ROM shortcut or emulator shortcut added through Steam ROM Manager. This profile will appear in the drop-down list of your profiles for any of your shortcuts added to Steam.
Use the left trackpad to pull up the menu and short-press an icon to switch into the respective profile. The buttons on the various touch and radial menus use a short-press to activate the respective hotkey.
MAME also comes with a EmuDeck - Steam Deck Light Gun Controls profile intended to be used with light gun games. To use this profile, apply it manually. For instructions, see How to Select a Steam Input Profile.
