This chord generator works with the white keys only. By default, it plays the C Major and C Minor scales. When you select a value over 64, it automatically transforms the C Major into C Minor scale. You still need to only press white keys - it lowers and raises notes for you automatically. For instance - when you play the E note in the C Minor scale, it is going to play the E Flat chord - the third degree of the C Minor scale.
How can you stand out as a producer? It starts with a solid foundation in music theory. With the instant scale device you can replace abletons native scale device and synchronise the scale settings to harmonize the midi all over your ableton live project.you can improve your songs and arrangement with various sequences that react on your chords, because the Instant Scale device can follow the chord progession of chord-o-mat 3.Same scale setting for multiple devices. Chord-O-Mat 3, Scale-O-Mat 4 and Modular Sequencer are enabled to link the scale settings. if you change the scale in one device all other devices will follow
Cthulhu is both a chord and arp module. It requires routing to a MIDI instrument to function and generates chords from pressing a single note. From there, you have the arp module to manipulate and transform the chords in tons of rhythmic ways.
Tonespace is an excellent free chord generator VST. Its unique interface displays chords and scales on a grid to help understand the structure and the relationship between different notes. It accepts simple, single-note MIDI input to generate full chords, and runs as either a VST/AU plugin or a standalone application.
Ripchord is a free MIDI plugin for creating and remixing chord progressions. You can create custom chord presets from scratch, load community presets or expansion packs, and also import any MIDI file that contains chords and Ripchord will automatically create a preset from it.
midiChords strives to be one of the best open-source MIDI chord mapping plugins around. This is a slightly less intuitive plugin than the others, so it really takes some time to experiment and dig into it to fully understand. Once you do, however, it becomes a powerful tool for chord generation.
ChordworX is a Windows-only generator that takes a single note and generates up to seven notes for complete chords and arpeggios. It comes loaded with 98 existing chords and gives users the option to add their own.
Does this chord generator also lock to scales ? So chords are within a scale or do you just play what ever you want ?
I am trying to play neo soul style chords very warm sustained chords, would this plug in help me ?
Chord Memorizer chords can have as many notes as you like and you can enter them singly or in clusters. When you want to play chords on one section of the keyboard while playing melodies on another section, you can click Chord Memorizer's Thru button to pass all incoming MIDI notes. But to avoid passing chord triggers, leave Thru off and enclose Chord Memorizer in a MIDI Effects Rack. Add an empty chain to the Rack and use the Rack's Key Zones to separate the two chains. The Chord Memorizer Pack also includes the Chord Transposer device, which transposes a single chord across the entire MIDI note range. Playing the lowest note of the chord triggers it at its original pitch. You might also insert Live's Scale effect after Chord Transposer to keep things in key.
Screen 2: Cthulhu maps eight-note chords across the keyboard. Its versatile arpeggiator (bottom) can process Cthulhu chords or real-time input.Cthulhu comes with many preset banks and you can get more from ADSR Sounds (adsrsounds.com/synth/cthulhu-presets). Creating your own is also quite easy: select the lowest trigger note by clicking just above its key in the on-screen keyboard, click the Learn button and start playing chords. Each new chord will advance the trigger note one step. You can also extract chord progressions from your favourite MIDI files with Cthulhu's Import MIDI file option or by playing the MIDI file on the Cthulhu track (Opt/Alt-click the Learn button in this case). It simplifies things if you clean up the MIDI file first by deleting non-chord notes and then quantising the chord notes. Once you've created a chord set, use the Eye button and the Remove menu to select the keepers and take out the trash. Notice that you can also save a chord set as a spreadsheet (Menu: Save CSV file of Chords).
Cthulhu's arpeggiator is among the most versatile I've seen. It grabs and arpeggiates the first eight notes received from chords played manually or using Cthulhu's chord generator. It holds 12 patterns selected by notes C-2 through B-2. A pattern has as many as 16 steps and you can assign each step a specific note from the grab or you can choose one of eight typical arpeggiator patterns. An empty slot produces a silent step. The arpeggiator note-repeat rate ranges from 16 bars to a 512th note and the Clock numerical sets the number of repeats for each step. The Chord button turns the arpeggiator into a chord repeater. Finally, the buttons across the top select eight independent arpeggiator parameters. When the Link Lengths button is turned off, each of the step parameters across the top can have a different range.
Scaler includes a variety of instruments from a drop-down menu at the top right to audition its chords, but you can silence them with the adjacent speaker button when targeting a Live instrument for playback.
Scaler also offers a bit of built-in inspiration. Select a scale from the Scale drop-down menu and you'll get a list of chords in Section B with variations and voicing options. Select a song style from the Songs menu and you'll again get a list of chords in Section B along with scale options. Or select a progression from the Artist or User menu to get saved chord sets. Once you have a batch of chords, you can create your own sequences in Section C.

Note: You can only change most parameters when Varispeed is in the 0 state to prevent messing up your Live set. To change any setting, first set Varispeed to 0, then tweak the desired parameters. All parameters (except the Exclude signs) are accessible from Push (1, 2, 3, and standalone).
When Varispeed is in 0 position, it logs your tempo as a starting point. If you want to permanently change this tempo ensure Varispeed is set to 0 otherwise Varispeed will revert it back to the original tempo.
Note:Currently accessing this parameter via the API is not optimal, which may result in longer transposition times for your Live set when this feature is enabled. Hopefully this will change with a future Live update.
By default, Varispeed transposes the Transpose parameter of all your Simpler devices in Slicing mode to keep them in key with the rest of your song.
It's important to use any of the exclude signs in the MIDI track's name; otherwise, both the notes in the MIDI clips and the Simpler device pitch will be transposed
(although this can lead to interesting experiments)
If you place the MIDI effect device "Pitch" (that comes with Live) into a MIDI track and rename it to "VPitch" (case sensitive), Varispeed will transpose it if this option is enabled.
This allows you to transpose signals coming from MIDI generating devices like sequencers and chord generators.
To use the VPitch device, you need to have an exclude sign in the track's name; otherwise, both the notes of the MIDI clips on the track and the MIDI information coming out from the VPitch device will get transposed.
Varispeed is not a realtime audio effect. It has to manually change parameter values in order to transpose your Live Set.
If you have a larger Live Set with a lot of Audio/MIDI clips and plugins, it can take a few seconds to transpose everything.
If your project contains very low or high MIDI notes, attempting to apply changes that hit the limits (0 or 127) will trigger a pop-up window from Varispeed, instructing you to revert the last change.
While chord progression generators remove the need for users to have a strong grasp of music theory or keyboard skills, even advanced producers use them to quickly find inspiration and test out chord progression ideas.
Drift is essentially a subtractive synthesizer that has two oscillators, a noise generator, one filter, an LFO, along with various modulation and effects options. Among these options are the Drift and Shape parameters, which even by themselves introduce analog flavor and unique textures.
