For those unfamiliar with Mind Games [ it's *not* as pompous as it sounds, nor is
it related to the bad connotations of "Are you playng mind games with me?" ], I'll
propose a brief description later. This year's gathering will be at the Phoenix
Inn in the middle of the Biltmore area of Phoenix. Room rates will be typical of
RG rates (actually pretty low compared to some I've seen recently) and include
breakfast. The registration fee will include food for Friday night and Saturday
lunch as well as "hospitality" and door prizes. We haven't provided for Saturday
night (officially) since we felt that many attendees might want to unwind at the
Phoenix Hard Rock Cafe or Planet Hollywood located within a couple of blocks of
the hotel. Those wanting more serious fare can use the hotel shuttel to attend
some of the more prestigious restaurants in the area. (the Frank Lloyd Wright
designed Biltmore Hotel for example) The shuttle is also available to and from the
airport -- a 10 minute car ride due south of the hotel -- after a phone call.
Look for registration information in the Bulletin and your local newsletters or
contact Al Gore at ag...@primenet.com
For those unfamiliar with Mind Games, it is a competition but not amongst Mensans!
Various game manufactureres and publishers vie for the now coveted "Mensa Select"
seal of approval awarded to the top new games. The games are chosen by votes cast
by members of Mensa after having played *all* the games -- there have been as many
as 40 submitted -- in a regional gathering setting. Past winners include such M
favorites as Taboo (tm), Set (tm), The Gathering (tm). For all you gamesters out
there, here is your opportunity to provide the designers and publishers with
feedback on how the game played ... and what could be done to fix and almost good
game.
Because of the format, only pre-registrations are allowed ... and only Ms (include
your member number in the registration or bring your card) will vote, though
non-Ms can participate in the play.
