Interesting experience shared by a co-worker about dyes and artificial flavoring...

--+
I feel compelled to share some thoughts here. I base my views on the past 8 years of my own diet change, having removed virtually all artificial colors, artificial flavors and artificial preservatives. This change was based on a lot of reading on the topics because of a number of health problems that the doctors could not identify any causes for.

1) The food dyes are part of the problem, but combine that with the effects of the flavorings and preservatives, and there is a very significant amount in our normal diets.

2) These not only affect children, but adults as well.

3) When I was young, there was no such label as ADD or ADHD, but I had many of the symptoms. In fact, I still had many of those symptoms as an adult, although not enough symptoms to be classified as ADHD. However, virtually all of the health problems and the ADHD symptoms vanished when I changed my diet to remove the artificial stuff.

4) I had used an inhaler for asthma relief for 15 years, but within several months after changing my diet, I realized that I no longer needed it. I have not used it in over 7 years, and have been able to participate in more frequent and strenuous exercise than I had previously during the time that I was using the inhaler.

5) After a few years on such a diet, I have been able to observe my health in such a way that my body is calibrated to recognize when I got some food with something artificial. For example, I happened to notice how I felt on a particular Monday, And how I felt when trying to wake up on that Tuesday. Through much experience, I was guessing that it was something that I ate Sunday afternoon. We had had a meal at church, however, I only ate the food that my wife had made at home and brought to the group meal. On the next Sunday, I checked the church kitchen for the large salt container that was used to fill up the salt shakers for the tables. It contained an artificial ingredient as an "anti-caking agent". I could tell.

Parents, please consider your children's health, and also your own.

Thanks,

Easier said than done :)

I don't think it is possible for us to live like that. Doing it in moderation will work long term, in my opinion.

The mantra in food industry is "..it can only tease your taste buds not satiate them".  They will add anything to make it look attractive and taste like you crave it more.

Do not trust factory cooking/ recipes.  Their goal is to make more money not our health.
What should we eat? Any cooking from whoever has our best interests at heart - mom/wife :)
