In this article we will show you how to find the driver/software needed for your operating system.
Whether you have a new printer or computer, an updated operating system, or for some reason your printer and computer are no longer able to communicate, updating or reinstalling your drivers may be helpful.
To utilize all functions of your printer/scanner, the Canon software for your model may be necessary. Instructions on how to find these are below.
If you are installing your printer for the first time, have updated your computer operating system, or the printer is unable to communicate with the computer, you will need to download the recommended driver in order to print.
It took me days to get my G3110 printer to work with macOS Ventura on my MacBook Air M2. I finally managed to get the job done by installing a printer driver for the G3000 series (G3110 is part of the G3000 series). The driver can be found on the Canon Asia site: =0630C
I tried 4 times to get my new printer to install. It kept going from "printer detected" to "printer not detected, check connection". I tried every suggestion in the guide, as well as trying multiple USB ports and 2 different USB cables.
I cant seem to get mines install, im not sure what driver im supposed to install ? please help! Ive searched everywhere and cant seem to find how to install it to my laptop . Edit: My scanner works, but not my printer. Im not sure if it is my laptop, it is Windows 10 Home in S mode.
This prior post is what worked for me. Give it a try, and be sure to wipe out any traces of the prior installation. You should have an installation disk that came with the printer - that's where you'll find the program for installing. If not, go to the Canon website and install from there.
I know this is extremely late, but I have an answer for how to fix this for anyone who is looking for an answer in 2021. Like me, you probably plugged the printer in to the computer and turned it on before trying to install the drivers, I know I did! And... that was the problem. So here's how to fix it:
1. Download Canon IJ Scan Utility [Link to third-party site offering Canon software replaced with link to Canon USA site offering the same software from the official source.]
2. Open app and click "Diagnose and Repair"
I recently purchased a PIXMA G620, primarily for the MegaTank feature and the positive reviews on photo print quality (this replaces a broken Epson Artisan 50). However, when I installed it on my MacBook Pro (USB), I found that the printer driver was unexpectedly bare-bones with respect to features - especially when compared with the Windows driver for this printer. The Windows driver enables several features that are especially useful for photo printing, including grayscale, control of the borderless overprinting amount, ability to tweak individual colors, and access to maintenance functions like nozzle cleaning and test page printing. On the Mac some of these features are not available at all, and others are only available through the "Remote UI" web interface - which is disappointing and challenging to the ease of use and capabilities of the printer on Mac - especially for photo printing, which is my primary use case.
The few test prints I've made (after struggling with some unexpected borderless printing cropping) seem to have great color fidelity, but I feel like I'm not getting the full intended use of the printer on Mac that I would have if I were a Windows user.
I was also expecting the ability to "turn off printer color management" to be able to let "Photoshop Manage Color" (my prior workflow with Epson) but it seems the G620 doesn't support this on either Mac or Windows.
I also purchased the Canon G620 printed and find out that it does not come with ICC profiles, so I can't print pictures the same way I was printing on Canon TS9020. I don't understand why Canon has decided not to ship ICC profiles for different paper types. They have been doing that for years, this is my like 4th Canon printer. I am very upset about this.
I'm still upset about the lack of a color management-/profile-supporting driver on OS X. Maybe it was a bad assumption on my part, but until now every photo-capable printer I've ever used has had a driver that supported color management and profiles on OS X - even 10-year-old printers that cost less than the G620. This lack of solid driver support was not apparent from any of the product content on the web; I eventually found it deep in the product manual (which I guess I should have read before purchase), and on a couple online reviews.
Hi--While I can speak to the printer driver on a Mac OS (I use my 620 on a Windows PC), I can confirm the ability to turn off the printer color management features using the Windows driver. I am responding to "I was also expecting the ability to "turn off printer color management" to be able to let "Photoshop Manage Color" (my prior workflow with Epson) but it seems the G620 doesn't support this on either Mac or Windows."
In the "Main" tab of the Printing Preferences window, under Color/Intensity, click the radio button to choose "Manual" and then click "Set". Then under the "Matching" tab, choose "None" under "Color Correction". This disables the printer from applying any corrections and allows Photoshop or whatever you're using to manage the color.
1. Was able to get it to upload the patch. Then, the driver up did upload. I was able to print one photo and scan one doc. Didn't use the printer for several days, then it would not work at all--not to print or scan. The printer hardware is still in excellent condition, but the message reads that the PC does not recognize that the printer is plugged in, or attached by USB port.
3. To answer basic questions : A. Yes, I am clicking the drop-down box on Windows 11. But that does not change the driver choice. B. Yes, I have uploaded both patches underneath the only driver choice. C. Yes, I have installed dirvers before and operated computers for 40 years. D. Yes, I had unplugged the USB port and turned off the computer when installing, then plugged in and turned on when the appropriate instructional box said to. E. Yes, I have chut down and restarted the PC in between trying again to upload the driver.
EDIT: I found a solution myself. Using the Win 11 Settings dialog, I clicked the "Add device" button...and it WORKED! I've become so accustomed to having to work my way around because the built-in Windows function fails, I didn't even think to try it. I'm cautiously optimistic about Windows 11 at this point, which is a pleasant surprise.
After the installation completed, it appeared as Canon MX920 series Printer WS and I was able to successfully print a Windows Printer Test Page. I tried opening a print dialog in Chrome, and then clicked "print using system dialog..." and that also worked, bringing up the familiar Canon printer control software that I had on my old PC. That may have come from attempting to install the above referenced driver, even though it failed to find the printer.
On computer, in Windows Settings. I followed the steps to add a printer or scanner. I have the printer attached via USB. Windows found it, identified it, and installed the necessary drivers with no further input from me. I did not have to point to the downloaded Canon files, so I do not think those were used.
I know this is long overdue. I just wanted to add to this. What I had to do. Looking thru the forum on this I did not see what I found out with testing and troubleshooting which I do for a living. But to get the "Canon MX920 series Printer WS" to work you must first download the Windows 11 driver from Canon and install it. Once the driver is installed, then you can use the add printer function and let Windows 11 to detect the printer and this driver will install. It basically detects the driver that was installed and uses the files to install the printer. If you do not install the Windows 11 drivers first, this option will still show in the detection, but when you try to install it the install will fail. So it needs those Windows 11 drivers from Canon to let the install work from what I have seen. I have installed about 3 of these on systems and installed 1, on 3 systems and on the other systems it was the same thing everytime. If the Windows 11 canon driver was not installed 1st, the Add Printer function would fail trying to install, "Canon MX920 series Printer WS." Once this WS drive is available you can make this the default and be good to go. But leave the other installed drivers for the MX922. You can remove them if you want just make sure when asked to remove the driver you say NO. If you do not get prompted (this happened to me a couple times) then cancel and just leave the extra printer there and default the one ending in WS. Just remember to choose the one ending in WS. You can still use the other installed driver, but the one with WS gives more functionality.
Hey everyone, I too after purcahsing a new Desk top with windows 11 was unable to print because there is no driver for the MX870 and not sure if they will release one per cannon tech support. The work around I am using is my cell phone. I am not throwing out a perfectly good printer with $60.00 ink cartridges right:) The I Phone and Android phones can work using WIFI to print pics and documents as well as anything you scan in. Thank goodness for Smart phones.
