Easy to use barcode plug-ins and extensions for Adobe InDesign, Illustrator und Photoshop. Standards compliant barcodes in seconds - no dependencies, no programming or macros, no barcode fonts required. The extensions are built on the new Softmatic unified JS barcode engine that works across all operating systems and environments.

CoScan is an easy to use document and barcode scanner for iPhone. The app supports single and multi-page documents and scans and identifies all common linear and 2D barcodes. All processing happens entirely on device for maximum privacy.

Softmatic BarcodePlus for Windows creates UPC-E, UPC-A, EAN 8, EAN 13, and EAN 13 with two and five digit addon. Import theretail barcodes to Illustrator, QuarkXPress, Indesign, Xara or similar applications. Put the codes on blisters, packages, labels, boxes, coupons and other design issues.

Softmatic BarcodePlus supports all Code 128 subtypes and will automatically create the smallest possible barcode symbol. When creating Code 128 GS1 (aka. 128 EAN, 128 UCC), the software will insert all relevant FNC characters and format the human readable text with application identifiers (AI) in parentheses for a standard-compliant symbol.

The next screenshot shows the creation of a Code 128 GS1 symbol. The barcode encodes a 14-digit GTIN (Application Identifier: 01) and the article weight (AI: 3103). The software takes care of all necessary formatting and data conversion to create a valid GS1 symbol:

Softmatic BarcodePlus for Windows supports ISBN 10 and ISBN 13 barcodes with addons. The ISBN text is writtenabove the barcode as recommended by the standard. The software exports to vector EPS (EncapsulatedPostScript), SVG and high resolution raster formats. Use the barcodes on dust jackets, titles, and covers for books, periodicals, and magazines.

The screenshot shows the creation of an ISBN 13 symbol with a five-digit add-on or "satellite" barcode. The add-on can be used to encode the price of the book; with periodicals it can encode the issue number. The software will also write the plain ISBN number above the code.

Softmatic BarcodePlus creates the most important 2D area barcode types: QR ("cellphone barcode"), Datamatrix, Aztec, and PDF417. With all symbologies, the softwarehandles all required data formatting, conversion, and check digit calculation automatically.

After purchasing, the extension will automatically be downloaded and installed in your local extensions folder. Close Illustrator before installing. After installation, reopen Illustrator. The extension can be found in Illustrator menu bar > Window > Extensions.

If the automatic install fails, you can anytime install manually: In the Creative Cloud app navigate to Stock & Marketplace > Plugins > Manage Plugins. The extension should be listed in this panel. Close Illustrator and then click the "Install" button next to the listing. After installation, reopen Illustrator.

Once the preview is updated and shows a valid barcode, click "Insert Barcode" to add the barcodeto your Illustrator document. The barcode will be added to the top most layer of the currentlyactive document. Make sure that this layer is visible and not locked:

The extension creates barcodes in pure black (CMYK: 0 0 0 100). Per default, Illustrator will convert pure blacks into so called "Rich Blacks" (typically CMYK: 50 50 50 100). This can cause issues with misaglined printing plates, resulting in bars that look fuzzy or have a color halo. For best results, set Preferences > Appearance of Black to "Output all blacks accurately".

Being a standalone application adds some other perks. For instance you can do batch generation of barcodes using a list of codes as input. Again, the output is vector, so you get the best possible quality.

Another feature is command line barcode generation. Basically, if you need to automate your barcodes, you can use any automation software to pass the codes as command line parameters to the barcode generator and get the output for further processing. This is impossible with a plugin that is designed to fit the user interface of your vector graphics editor.

We provide a free demo version of the software that lets you try the product and decide if it fits your requirements. Click the Download button at the top right corner of this page to get the demo.

Softmatic Barcode is a program designed for Mac users who need to immediately generate various types of barcodes on their computers. The application is packed with a user-friendly interface, lets you choose between multiple output profiles, and takes only a few moments to generate the barcodes you need.

Every output setting available is being displayed on the main window of the utility. You just need to select the preferred barcode type, enter the information you wish to encode, choose an output format, and the program will immediately generate the image you need.

So, I did some research. It turns out that with the EAN/UPC barcode, there is no simple 1:1 relationship between the character we want to encode and the sequence of bars and gaps. You can find a lot more about how this works here: -ean-13.html

In your form, create a text field and bring up the text field's properties dialog. Go to the General tab and make the field read-only if that is required (e.g. if you are using a different input field to collect the barcode string, or if the string gets calculated). Then go to the Appearance tab and select the "Libre Barcode EAN13 Text" font. If you installed the font while Acrobat was open, you will have to save the document and restart Acrobat before the font will show up in the list.

And finally, go to the Calculate tab and select to use a custom calculation script. The following script collects information form another field, in which a product naem will be entered, and then the corresponding barcode string is looked up in a JavaScript data structure, and that string is then converted to our "Compatible Input Method" string and displayed. Use the following script for that:

To make this script work, add anther text field named "SomeText" and enter either "Product1", "Product2", or "Product3" in that field and see the corresponding barcode displayed in the barcode field. Please keep in mind that the EAN barcodes have very strict rules about size (see the first link in this post about the details).

Works great with Data Merge and most other. Works great with Data Merge and most others. Chartbot Barcodes fixes the limitations of traditional barcode systems, generates a full range of barcode types and works with virtually all variable-data systems, including InDesign's built-in Data Merge feature. Even users of product-specific barcode modules can add Chartbot Barcodes to their existing layouts to support new barcode types, process colors, and take advantage of other options.

No macros, no scripting. Unlike fonts, there's no need to reformat your database, run Excel macros, compute checksums, or do other data processing. For most all barcode types, Chartbot Barcodes automatically takes care of encoding, checksumming and resizing.

No barcode image files! 1-Step barcode workflow. Barcodes are generated and Placed in a single step. All within InDesign. Even for Data Merge. There's no error-prone need to create barcodes in another app, then Data Merge them as pictures in a second step.
