A long time ago in a galaxy far far away (from the one in which Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is set) I did a post on this blog stating that I intended to write about Surakksha (the awesome debut of the awesome Gunmaster G-9 played by the awesome Mithun Chakraborty) but that stupid #MyChoice #VogueEmpower video distracted the hell out of me.
Just last year we had Dedh Ishqiya, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Ragini MMS 2, Bhoothnath Returns, Hate Story 2 and Singham Returns. Dedh Ishqiya was probably made on a comparable budget to Ishqiya; and the Hate Story films are both B-Grade in spirit if not in budget, so not much of a difference there. But all the other sequels were definitely bigger in scale than the originals. This year, Tanu Weds Manu Returns has unquestionably become way more of a success than the first movie despite its grammatically questionable title, and ABCD2 is coming out soon (with an A-list cast, while the original had actual dancers who very few people knew).

Laal Kabootar deserves applause for its gritty portrayal of Karachi, capturing its chaotic street and raw atmposphere. That's about it, unfortunately. Still a long way to go to create an Anurag Kashyap's type of crime drama/thriller but trying is good.
The film is very nicely written, directed, shot, and acted. It's not as amazing as Cake but is still a film that shouldn't be missed. I really liked the film's music too, though it felt a bit overused at times. The story is quite subtle, and has a similar pattern to Andhadhun. The multiple character pov thing works very well for it. The only major con is that it could've been a little longer. It had a bit too many cuts.
Laal Kabootar is a well-written Pakistani movie in the style of Anurag Kashyap with a compelling story and excellent acting. The music and soundtrack were excellent, however at one point they became a little bit more. Another problem could be that it ended a little too quickly and didn't properly develop the characters.
Overall, it's a fast-paced, suspenseful movie with style and flair that will stick in your memory.
A taxi driver is bored in his daily rotten life in Karachi, so he tries to flee to Dubai to lead a exciting life. That's why he set up a plan with his two friends. But story took a excellent turn, 'cus now he has only chance to free from here but he has to help a young woman( who seeks revenge from those, who killed her husband) in exchange of large amount of money.
A Gotham city story just without the Batman, I cannot empathize on how much I found film real, it displays Karachi on the screen like no other, Laal Kabootar skims all the sunshine and rainbows that Pakistani films mostly present rather relies on strong and gritty filmmaking. It's not a rom-com, or a love story its not even a heroic story, Laal Kabootar is a consistent story and never leaves any of its simple but poignant characters.
This is one of the more impressive crime movies I have seen this year. Beautifully acted, with a taut written screenplay and having character moments of the quieter variety. The music is also atmospheric, though sometimes it becomes a tad bit overused. The cinematography of this movie is a standout.
'Laal Kabootar' is a rarity for Pakistani films. It projects itself as a slow-burn thriller where the first 2 acts, in its tight runtime of 110 minutes, aim to establish the central characters along with forming a narrative build up for the third/final act in which the plot and every subplot culminates for an explosive and intense ending.
The movie, produced by Nehr Ghar Film, was released in March across Pakistan and was a critical and commercial success. It is receiving some festival play, including at the Singapore South Asian Intl. Film Festival and the upcoming Chicago South Asian Film Festival and Tasveer South Asian Film Festival in Seattle.
Bollywood has made use of birds and animals on several occasions, be it to narrate the story as in the case of the parrot in Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon or the dog Pluto in Dil Dhadakne Do. The same way Bollywood films have also incorporated Kabootars in their songs to make them a lot more fun.
Produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Emmay Entertainment, Lucknow Central stars Farhan Akhtar, Diana Penty, Ronit Roy, Deepak Dobriyal, GippyGrewal, Rajesh Sharma and Inaamulhaq. Directed by Ranjit Tiwari, the film is slated to release on 15th September, 2017.
