As described above, I'm having no joy with the iPlayer on my new S-185 (one of the main reasons I bought it). Using the arrow buttons on the remote to navigate the iPlayer interface results in completely random operation. It simply will not let you select certain menus - you can try, but it will just flicker and select a completely different menu entirely. I simply cannot access any of the services I want.
I think other users have had similar issues with different Sony Blu-Ray models and had success by resetting the hardware to factory setting etc. I have done all this and ensured that I have the most up to date firmware. Still no joy... has anyone got any ideas??
I have two of these, one bought from Tesco and the other from Amazon. Both units have the same issues with BBC iplayer as others have described - i.e. when I move and select a pink highlighted items in the iplayer menu, I am taken to the wrong item - usually the previous one on the list. Same thing for the programme selection - i.e. scrolling down and then selecting a pink highlighted programme will bring up the previous one. Also, searches are impossible - bringing up the search menu where you highlight letters doesn't work - only random letters are selectable; scrolling skips several in the list for no apparent reason. Same thing for channel selection - i.e. selection box doesn't move predictably over the BBC channel boxes, when one is highlighted (e.g. BBC two) and is selected, I am taken to BBC one. It's maddening and frustrating.
Any more news on this yet? It's driving me crazy - I efectively have a non-functional iplayer on both my BDP-S185's. Is it possible to roll back to earlier more stable firmware, and if so, how??? If not advised, when might a firmware release be forthcoming?
Any further news on this? I've had my BDP-S185 for about 6 months, firmware update last week & now iPlayer freezes the entire unit. I have to unplug at the mains just to get it to respond to any buttons both on the remote & the unit itself.
I have exactly the same issue - all online TV services with BDP S185 DVD Player (Lovefilm, Channel5 etc.) play fine but iPlayer which of course is the one you want to work just freezes with the blue line graphic.
Most programmes Play button doesn't appear - error message appears 'Unfortunately this Programme is not Currently Available. BBC iPlayer was Unable to Connect to a Required Server. Please Check Your Network Connection & Try Again'
The iPlayer app runs on the web browser that is on the S480 and once I saw that I guessed it must be due to my Javascript being disabled. I just tested a radio broadcast and an HD episode of Merlin and they both worked.

I just wondered the best way to block BBC Iplayer and none of the other BBC content, looking at it i'm not sure if application control will work alone. As this is HTTPS content i think we would need to use SSL deep inspection in proxy mode?
Hi and welcome to the Forums.Yes, you're right. For this case you need app control with deep inspection. You should also distribute the Forti CA certificate to the clients to avoid ssl errors (if you use the default Forti SSL Inspection Cert).
To achieve what you need you're going to have to set up full ssl inspection. Be carefull and add the proper exeptions, since its illegal to perform full inspection on medical and financial data for example.
It seems the site uses the same security certificate that is used on BBC's other sites, so if you are not using full SSL inspection, you'll likely only see the domain or FQDN name on the connection. You might have better luck via using FortiView->sources then pick the device that is streaming via the BBC iplayer - hopefully you should see the actual video stream connection and hopefully the domain is distinct enough for you to block it. (You may need to enable Device Detection on the internal network interface.)
The Fortinet Security Fabric brings together the concepts of convergence and consolidation to provide comprehensive cybersecurity protection for all users, devices, and applications and across all network edges.
The iPlayer 2 has an RS-232 serial port that allows for show selection and brightness control. The port is primarily intended for use by the Controller Keypad, but it can also be used by other external controllers.
Each command to the iPlayer-2 consists of 5 characters. The first character is always "X". The next two characters are the ASCII representation of a hexadecimal command byte. The last two characters are a hexadecimal data byte. The hex characters are upper case ("0" - "9", "A" - "F").
If an iPlayer-2 is in Multi-Universe/Master mode, it may also send out "X" packet commands to other units. It will also send out periodic "T" characters (the frame sync trigger). The "T"s can occur at any point (even in the middle of a packet) and should be ignored when parsing the packet.
The BBC has confirmed what has been UK industry gossip for months: That it is scrapping TV channel controller roles after decades in favor of a model placing greater emphasis on streaming-first commissioning.
BBC chief content officer Charlotte Moore outlined the radical overhaul to staff on Tuesday after conducting a review of the way the British broadcaster greenlights shows at a time when U.S. streamers like Netflix are hoovering up viewers.
From April next year, the BBC will no longer have controllers overseeing BBC One, BBC Two, and BBC Four. Instead, portfolio editors will be appointed to handpick shows commissioned largely for iPlayer by genre heads with supercharged powers.

Under this new system, BBC Two controller Patrick Holland will become director of factual, while the other major genres will be led by Piers Wenger (drama), Shane Allen (comedy), Rose Garnett (film), and Kate Phillips (entertainment).
With some roles opening and others closing, the BBC is unable to say at this point whether there will be redundancies. It did say, however, that the new structure will result in an overall reduction in costs as the broadcaster bids to save 925M ($1.2B) by March 2022.
The BBC is considering whether to restore BBC Three to television after it was made an online-only service in 2016. The corporation did not provide an update on its thinking around BBC Three today, or how its return to TV fits with a broader plan to supercharge iPlayer.
