Bees pitcher Nick Strincevich allowed one Dodger to reach first base in the bottom of the first when he walked left fielder Joe Vosmik. In the bottom of the second, the Dodgers pounded the right-hander for five runs. The barrage commenced with first sacker Dolph Camilli, a Brooklyn favorite who batted .287 in 1940. Camilli doubled, right fielder Roy Cullenbine got a base on balls, and backstop Herman Franks hit his only home run of the year. Strincevich walked Reese, who got to second safely when Dodgers pitcher Tex Carleton grounded out 1-6-3. Center fielder and leadoff batter Charlie Gilbert knocked in the rookie shortstop with a two-run blast.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Dodgers amplified the scoreboard when Reese singled home Franks, who had doubled. An error by the Bees catcher, future Hall of Famer Al Lopez, sent Reese to second and Gilbert repeated his second-inning feat with another two-run bash.
With the Dodgers up 8-3, Stengel sent Al Javery to replace Errickson in the seventh inning; Javery held the Dodgers scoreless for the remainder of the game. Carleton went all nine innings for the Dodgers.
Reese was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1984. Illness prevented Cronin, a 1956 inductee, from attending the ceremony. But Reese brought things full circle in his speech when he wished Cronin well.13
The Harvard men's squash team wrote the latest chapter in its 23-year winning streak against Navy yesterday at Hemenway as the squad, led by freshman David Boyum, trashed a competitive (read: "eager to compete") Midshipman squad, 9-0. Even if the Midshipmen haven't won an actual dual match since before any of yesterday's competitors were born, it's almost certain that they never lose a warm-up. These guys stand with their noses up against the front wall and bash the ball so hard in the pre-match rallies that there's no way their oppent can return it. It's funny to watch, but don't forget, it is a psych move: servicemen take their squash seriously.
Power alone, however, doesn't hold up once you start keeping score, especially against teams like Harvard (read: talented and well-coached). There were few close struggles in the best-of-five contests.
Said Navy coach Dave Brown of the Harvard mentor: "Dave Fish is the fines; teacher in the country for two reasons. One, his teams are always prepared, and two, his in-match advice is impeccable. I learn just from playing aginst his teams."

The Yule Ball, a party with a dance beat celebrating all things Harry Potter-y, returns to Turner Hall Ballroom this weekend. The ball, presented by Oak and Shield Pub, was so popular that Saturday night's soiree sold out. Tickets are still available for Friday night's bash, with the Triwizard Tournament festivities starting at 7 p.m. at the ballroom 1040 N. Phillips Ave. DJs will work their, um, magic; cosplay (dressing the part) is very, very much encouraged. (It's an 18-and-over event.) General admission is $25, with add-on packages available.
The Milwaukee Repertory Theater's production of "The All Night Strut!" concludes its lengthy run in the Stackner Cabaret, 108 E. Wells St., on Sunday. The production, set in a passenger train bar car, features a jukebox full of tunes from the 1930s and '40s, and a cast including Jonathan Spivey, Brian Russell Carey, Kelley Faulkner, Nygel D. Robinson and Katherine Thomas.
