Myson-in-law installed an Ubuntu 14.04 system on my computer - I don't know much about it myself. I bought an Epson XP-430 printer a few days ago and cannot install the required drivers for the printer/scanner to work. How can I hook up the printer and scanner to the computer so that I can printer and scan to my computer?

The MSP-FET430UIF recently purchased came in a box with CD-ROM, but despite installing the software and leaving the CD in the computer - when I plug this device into the USB port - the computer cannot find a USB driver for it. Please help.

Hello. I am trying to get my DesignJet 430 running but am having big problems downloading drivers from HP website. When I download the driver for AutoCad 2005., it comes in as a zipped .exe file. When I unzip, all files have incomplete file extensions with underscore. For example: .ex_, .hp_, .sp_. After searching internet, I learned that these are compressed files that need to be expanded using Windows command prompt, which I did. Now I am able to start the exe file, but all it does is to start the hp color correction wizard. I've never had so much trouble getting a driver from a manufacturer. Not sure what's going on. I am using AutoCad and this plotter on a XP system. Windows can't seem to find any drivers either. Plotter shows up in Devices and Printers, but without a driver installed. There are non-hp websites claiming to have the driver for the 430, but I am afraid to download anything from them, unless someone can recommend a safe alternative to HP site. So any advice or suggestions from the Community would be greatly appreciated. I'm out of ideas. Thank you! - Tom

Have you tried doing a search under the "Support" tab for your printer at the top of this page? I found the support page has the driver for both the 32 and 64 bit XP operating systems. I downloaded them and the files unzipped just fine and look complete nothing like what you described originally. I would try that option again and see if maybe you just got a bad download. Here's a link: -en/drivers/selfservice/hp-designjet-400-printer-series/25253/model/24559

When you download the driver, it's in a zipped folder so you have to unzip it to a new folder on your desktop. Should be around 17 files when it's unzipped. Then use the "Have Disc" option when loading the driver and browse to that folder.

The other thing I noticed was that the driver for the 430 might be already on your computer in the XP system. You may have already tried this but when you go to "Add a printer" and select HP, it should bring up a list of supported printers that are already in your computer. My Windows 7 system still shows the legacy printers like the 220 and the 450C as an option to load. You might try other drivers that are in the same family as your printer first. Then maybe move onto the 600 and 700 series. If they don't work, use the "remove a device" option and try another. (You may have to reboot between loading and removing each driver.) I've had success with this in the past. I used to use a driver for a Designjet 5500 with several different printers because the interface was much better. Used it for a T1200, which was much newer than the 5500 and it worked just fine.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I searched for drivers from Autodesk with no luck. Also tried to install using AutoCad 2008 Add-A-Plotter Wizard. The Wizard could not see my plotter, so no luck there either. Windows sees my DesignJet but can't find a driver. I think my next step will be to see if HP will respond. I do not expect that they will. Right now I'd be happy if I could just find a Windows (XP or 7) driver. Then, I could print CAD file to pdf from AutoCad, and then print the pdf file from Windows. This was suggested by another individual online. It might work for me if I could get a Windows driver that will load. Thanks again for your ideas. -Tom

I have a driver for the 450C printer that might work. it's the PL532en driver. When I go to load it, it shows several of the HP legacy printers to choose from. The 430 isn't there but I'm pretty sure the 450 driver would work. I've used different drivers on different printers before and haven't had any problems. Is your XP a 32 or 64 bit machine? I have the driver for both. Send a PM with your email address.

D Hook, that's very kind of you to offer. I'm really almost out of ideas, other than to spend $50 on an Ebay disk called "How To Install Drivers HP Designjet 430 For Windows". My XP system is 32-bit, and my email address is: [personal info removed]. Thank you! -Tom

You'll have to send me a PM through this forum for me to get you the driver package. HP doesn't allow you to post your email address on the threads. I'll send you the 32bit version first, then the 64bit in case you need it down the road.

Sorry about that. For some reason, the "Send Message" button is not showing up on your profile like it should (I think). I've tried different browsers and different PC's. I'll reboot and try again in a little while. Thanks. -Tom

I am having troubles installing the nvidia driver for a titan xp gpu on Ubuntu 16.04. I keep getting a login loop no matter the driver version (I tried different ones up to 430). I have tried several solutions described on the internet, but none of them worked for me. Could you please give me any advice at how to solve this issue?

This looks like you had at some time installed the driver using the .run installer which now gets half loaded and blocked the ppa driver from being correctly installed.

Please run the .run installer with --uninstall options again, then try reinstalling the ppa driver:

The Epson Expression Home XP-430 printer model is combinable with the 4-color system that promotes drop-on-demand thermal inkjet print technology. It also has a MicroPiezo print system that can produce an optimum print resolution of up to 5760 x 1440 optimized (dpi). Printing with this machine according to the ISO mode is about 9.0 pages per minute (ppm). However, color printing with this device has a print rate of 4.5 ppm. Its minimum ink droplet volume is about three picolitres (pl).

Furthermore, when the machine is in an ideal print environment, the manufacturer recommends a temperature range between 10 and 350C during operation. On the other hand, the storage range is between -20 and 400C under similar conditions. However, the relative humidity during between 20 and 80%, while that of storage is between 5 and 85% with no condensation. Download Epson Expression Home XP-430 driver from Epson website

PRINTING. The Epson Expression Home XP-430 prints using inkjet technology, which sprays liquid ink onto the paper from a moving head. It prints photos on glossy paper that are fine for casual users, but not as good as most inkjet printers. Photo printing speed is typical, about 2.9 minutes for a 4x6, costing 60 cents. Text printing is not a strong point, with noticeably fuzzy edges on letters. Text printing was reasonably fast, 7.9 pages per minute, costing 6.4 cents per page. It prints color graphics well enough for most purposes, such as school reports, at 2.4 pages per minute, costing 28.5 cents per page.

SCANNING and COPYING. Scanning performance was Good, but had a few noticeable flaws. It can scan or copy an area up to 11.3 x 8.2 inches (letter size). Copying performance was Very Good, suitable for most purposes.

CONTROLS and DISPLAY. The printer has a medium-size 2.6-inch display screen that can preview each photo in a 2.8-inch window.

CONNECTIVITY and NETWORKING. The Epson Expression Home XP-430 has a memory-card reader for directly printing documents and images stored on an SD card. You can connect directly to a PC with a USB cable, or to your network router wirelessly with WiFi. There's a WiFi Auto-connect feature that makes it easy to link to your wireless router. Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print are built-in, to print wirelessly from smartphones, tablets and PCs. You can also install Epson's app on your smart phone or tablet, as another option for printing over your WiFi network. You can also print an email remotely by forwarding it directly to this printer.

COST OF OWNERSHIP AND INK. When this section was last updated, the printer's purchase price was about $100, typical for an all-in-one inkjet printer. Printing uses up ink. Over time, as you print, the costs add up. This printer uses 4 cartridges. The Epson ink cartridges used in testing were the 288XL BK, 288XL C, 288XL M, and 288XL Y. At the time, their prices were $31, $17, $17, and $17 respectively. We estimate the cartridges to last a short time: around 2.8 months. After 2 years of typical use, we estimate the total cost to be $344, typical for an inkjet. The estimated yearly cost is $122, also typical for this printer type. So the 3-, 4- and 5-year estimates are $467, $589 and $711 respectively.

PRINTER FIRMWARE. Firmware is software that exists inside the printer. All models are evaluated using the latest firmware version available at the time of testing.

SOFTWARE. The collection of software accompanying the printer may include: the printer driver, printer applications, electronic user manual, (and for all-in-ones:) scanning, faxing, and OCR apps. These get installed on your personal computer. All models are evaluated with a Windows 10 PC using the latest version of printer driver and printer support apps available at the time of testing. The software version was 2.52.0.0.

AirPrint is a technology built into most popular printer models, including those listed here. With AirPrint technology, it's easy to print full-quality photos and documents from your Apple device. AirPrint features include easy discovery, automatic media selection, and enterprise-class finishing options.
