Centre LSD Commemorates International Women's Day 2024
The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development (Centre LSD) joins the global community in commemorating
International Women's Day 2024 under the theme "Investing in Women: Accelerate Progress."
As we celebrate the achievements and resilience of women worldwide, we must also reflect on the challenges
that persist, particularly in our local context.
One pressing issue that demands immediate attention is the prevalence of socio-cultural and religious norms
that perpetuate violence against women and girls.
In Nigeria and throughout Africa, these norms often create barriers to women's advancement, undermine their
rights, and subject them to various forms of violence.
Centre LSD recognizes the urgent need to address these deeply ingrained norms and beliefs, which tacitly support
violence against women.
To accelerate progress in this critical area, Centre LSD calls for increased investment in efforts to dismantle
these harmful norms, reform discriminatory laws, and challenge regressive religious beliefs.
In addition, we emphasize the importance of providing women with expanded economic opportunities and promoting
their active participation in decision-making processes at all levels.
Mr. Vincent Dania, Programme Coordinator at Centre LSD, stresses that by tackling the root causes of gender-based
violence and promoting gender equality, we can create a more inclusive and just society where all individuals, regardless of gender, can thrive.
Centre LSD remains committed to advancing this agenda and working alongside partners and stakeholders to drive
meaningful change.
On this International Women's Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to investing in women and accelerating progress
towards a more equitable and sustainable future for all.
