Participants at a 3 day capacity strengthening workshop for partners of the Voice to the People (V2P) project holding in Anambra State took time-out to lend their voice to the plight of the kidnapped Chibok girls. This is in line with one of the objectives of the campaign to ensure that girls are given equal opportunities to acquire education that will empower them to compete favorably in a hitherto male dominated environment in Anambra State.

The kidnap of the girls and the spurious arguments presented by the abductors are opposed to the objectives of V2P and participants totally condemn this attempt to drag the nation back into the dark ages.
Participants agreed that the education of the girl-child is non-negotiable in the face of the onslaught of the effect of globalization and its impact in controlling economic opportunities needed for sustainable living.
Participants emphasized that every child has a Right to Education as stipulated in the Child’s Right Law of Anambra State 2006. This law which has also been passed by some other states in the country is enshrined in the 1999 Constitution as amended and as it relates to Right to Education.
Participants hereby call on the Federal Government to use all available means to ensure the safe return of the girls to their grieving parents.
Participants condemned the attempt to use the Nigeria Police to repress the efforts of law abiding citizens to enforce their constitutional human rights, freedom of association and assembly to peacefully protest the delay by government to secure the release of the girls. This action coming at a period when the country is in the full glare of the world portrays the country as one that pays only lip services to the promotion and protection of the rights of her citizens.
Participants were also disturbed by the utterance of Mr. Joseph Mbu, Commissioner of Police, FCT, who on Monday issued an order banning protests and rallies within the Capital Territory describing it as “insensitive and reckless” at a time when the country should be reflecting on how to overcome the threat posed by the abductors of the Chibok girls.
Participants are also unhappy that the Force Headquarters on Tuesday down played the statement by Mr. Mbu, demanding that disciplinary action should be taken against Mr. Mbu as an example to others of his types in the Force and to forestall a repeat of such display of arrogance by a public officer.
In conclusion, participants affirmed their support for the various individuals and groups that have lent their voices to the release of the girls saying “it is an integral aspect of our culture to genuinely feel for our fellow citizens that have had any kind of misfortune and any attempt to stifle this aspect of our culture would be destroying the convivial tenets that are enshrined in our body fabric”.
