Hello all!

I'd like to put some feelers out about a friend of mine who can come
to Atlanta to do some melody music workshops the weekend of July 16th.
Albert Cofrin is an amazing instrumentalist (bagpipes, oud, shawm,
upright bass, clarinet, Irish cittern...) who specializes in Early
Medieval music, he also rocks out to the occasional Balkan and Middle
Eastern tune as well :) . Here's his bio:
http://www.istanpitta.com/al_cofrin.html

He is available to conduct some music melody workshops and I'd like to
get a feel for who would be interested in attending these workshops.
Here are the 4 classes that I'd like for you to choose from, let me
know your thoughts and I will get a consensus.

These workshops would have a fee as I would need to fly Al in for the
workshops and he'd be featured in a show Saturday night at the Red
Light Cafe in Midtown Atlanta. Please feel free to forward to whomever
you think would be interested in these workshops.

Middle Eastern Melody Improvisations

Class will cover step progression of methods towards learning how to
work with modal scales to develop melodies to form dance tunes. Forms
and techniques will be covered in order to allow the a melody player
to provide appropriate melody support for middle eastern dance. These
methods are based upon melody applications used during the 12-14th c.
lower Europe. A recap of the standard church modes will be given and
used as a basis for the class.

Review of 3 Standard Turkish Tunes

Class will cover at least 3 standard Middle Eastern tunes commonly
used for Tribal style dance performances.

Instrumental Medieval Modal Improvisations:

Students will be shown rudimentary skills and techniques to allow
melodic improvisation on modal scales which is heavily used in
monophonic instrumental repertoire of the 13-14th c. reflecting the
concepts that were used to develop the Estampie and Istanpitta forms
as well as learning to create instrumental versions from medieval song
forms. A recap of the standard church modes will be given and used as
a basis for the class.

Introduction to Applied 16th-17th European Dance Music:

This is a very important class for musicians who find themselves with
the opportunity to perform for dancers and playing the associated
music for the matching choreography. The class will cover Caroso,
Arbeau, Playford and Inns of Court manuscripts and will stress upon
the importance of proper repeat structures and tempos to fit the
documented choreography for each of the dances addressed.

Thanks!
