Hey everyone!

The Memphis Java User Group will be meeting this Thursday, August 20th at 6:30pm at Cowork Memphis on 902 South Cooper Street.
Please RSVP at http://www.meetup.com/memphis-technology-user-groups/events/224225052/ so we can make sure to have enough food for everyone.

This month we'll be taking a look at the Groovy programming language. Groovy is a dynamic language that runs on the JVM that has many awesome features:
-interact seamlessly with Java classes (Java code can call Groovy code and vice-versa)
-Static and dynamic typing
-Operator overloading
-Native syntax for lists/arrays/maps
-String interpolation
-Functional programming
-Metaprogramming
-ability to write simple script-style programs
-enhanced standard library
We'll compare features with Java as we go, so this should be good for both beginners and seasoned Java developers.

We have time available for one or two lightning talks (5-15 minutes), so let me know if you have anything you want to present on.

As always, thanks to Vaco for sponsoring us and Cowork Memphis for providing the space. Be sure to thank them and reach out to one of our Vaco reps if you're looking for a job.

Thanks and see you Thursday!
-Daniel
