I think that he is just testing out John Loftus' s hypothesis about the outsiders test for faith (also, the title of his new book).

It wouldn't surprise me, I'd heard there was some historical evidence
for a Heracles. I'd not be surprised if a lot of gods had some
historical basis.

The publication of an OTF technique in a national magazine is significant.

The same line of argument can be invoked by a diest. A god could have existed to seed existence, and subsequently retired from all interfearence. Whether or not its more appropriate for them to think god retired, ceased to exist, or went into hiding can be debated. But I can't prove that the universe wasn't supernaturally seeded, and subsequently left running on auto-pilot.

This existence of 'ancient malevolent gods' was comically reintroduced in a recent movie, 'Cabin in the woods'. For those of you that haven't seen it, I recommend it.

"Cabin In the Woods" has the concept that we pacify the gods by human sacrifices. Gods are appeased by delivering pain and suffering to humans in this movie. If people are sacrificed in a certain manner, the gods will be content and slumber.

No, i mean there were humans who called themselves gods, and people believed them somehow.

Martin, you get all my cultural references. :-P but don't forget, the gods in 'Cabin in the woods' also give credits for watching teens get naked. Can't forget that detail. Now, what would I demand if I were a demanding ancient evil god...

Boobs. For sure.

Love that movie!   I got a big "Wolfram & Hart" vibe from Cabin in the Woods... if you know what I mean.

I think there is only about 3 seconds of boobs from the sacrificial "whore".  To appease the gods in the movie, four or possibly five young people must be painfully (gods love seeing pain) sacrificed: (1)  a whore, (2) an intellectual, (3) an athlete, (4) an idiot, and possibly (5) a virgin.  There are plenty of teenage boobs in other movies but not this one.  If boobs are your thing, you might be better off watching movies such as Showgirls

I know that you are kidding. Conversations digress quickly sometimes so I just try to redirect them back to the topic by typing something more serious or very factual, which kills the humor 《evil laugh!!!》

Nooooo!  hahah....

Cabin in the Woods was created by Angel's main writer/producers, Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon and the whole movie seems to fit nicely in the "Joss Whedonverse" complete with Angel's mousey "fred" Amy Acker and the Dollhouse's computer expert Fran Krans as main characters.   The "guys downstairs" are basically the "senior partners..."

The whole business side of dealing with the occult comic book demon/monster world in an office/corporate type setting is what the last season of Angel was all about. It was kinda the same office.

I think the arguments for "God is Evil" are as compelling as the ones for "God is Good". ;)

Same with Hamlet.
