Project. Lead a
seven member team to investigate, document, and develop near-term and
future technology
concepts for the integration of world-wide electronic data within the
40,000 person Naval
Aviation Systems Command. Responsible for overall project technical
direction, content,
and quality. Demonstrated numerous applicable technologies to senior navy
officials
(uniformed and civilian). Final demonstration is an integrated system of
high benefit
technologies to flag rank and Cabinet level management.
May 1995-December 1995: Abbott Laboratories, Inc., Irving, Texas
Senior Consultant (contract). Member of a project team responsible for
manufacturing
process assessment, validation, and improvements for a Food & Drug
Administration
(FDA) regulated medical diagnostic manufacturer. Activities include: design of
experiments; design and construction of validation tests for hardware,
software, and
firmware; development of statistical rationales; preparation of validation
packages for
FDA submittal; and, coordination of client/contractor personnel interactions.
January 1994-May 1995: Matthews Industries, Inc., Decatur, Alabama
Manager, Engineering and Quality. Reporting to the CEO of a $20M, 175-person
diversified custom manufacturer (in rehabilitation). Responsible for
Engineering, Quality,
Maintenance, and Environmental/Safety departments. Products include
commercial air
conditioning equipment (Carrier), fabricated assemblies for heavy
equipment (Komatsu,
Kobelco), custom machined parts, and commercial tanning beds. Facilities
include CNC

Initiated the functional requirements phase of a company-wide information
management
systems; reduced manufacturing rework by >50%; and, decreased expected

Consultant Engineer (contract). Assigned to Tennessee Valley Authority's
Browns Ferry

requirements definition phase of a long-range program for plant equipment

operations, and maintenance data and information control/management;

team responsible for the integration and migration of TVA's Plant
Equipment Management
System (a mainframe data base system) into a microcomputer LAN based system
(Oracle); and, performed independent evaluations of TVA and contractor design
engineering organizations and processes for quality and process improvement.
Accomplishments: Reduced schedules for data/information collection > 10%;
identified
opportunities to reduce plant modification design processing times by 4-6
weeks; and,
implemented team building workshops for mid-level management.
July 1989-February 1992: Resource Associates, Inc., Peoria, Arizona
Project Manager (contract). Major projects include: process re-engineering
and quality
improvement activities within the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS)
Licensing & Regulatory Compliance Organization; developed and managed the Plant
Modification Process Improvement Program within the Engineering & Construction
Group; managed 11 professionals in the development of site and corporate
engineering
training; engineering and construction standards, programs, and
procedures; and,
developed and implemented the Configuration Management Assurance Program and
updated the Configuration Management Program. Accomplishments: Incorporated
methods that reduced engineering procedures and standards by 20%; reduced
maintenance
administrative delay times by 25%; increased productivity of engineering

and, reduced training staff by 25%.

activities: For two years managed a client's involvement in nuclear
industry technical and
management improvement projects (functional supervision of 26 engineers);
and, managed
several projects requiring the short-notice formation of a technical team,
deployment to
client site, and intense evaluation of equipment, technical, or
regulatory issues
(construction and operation). Accomplishments: Successfully reduced
clients O&M costs
for engineering services by 15%; and, team technical and fiscal
performance rewarded by
repeat business and personal bonuses.

Numerous, and continuous, contract assignments at power plants either under
construction or in pre-operational phase throughout the US.
Accomplishments: Wrote
first demonstrable computer code (FORTRAN) that modeled the thermal-hydraulic
behavior of a sodium-cooled nuclear plant; successfully supervised
construction craft and
engineers in meeting schedules for piping, pipe support, and
instrumentation installations;
and, successfully organized and implemented a regulatory compliance
department in the
timely support of a nuclear plant startup.
