If it is difficult to use the education edition, I sometimes use the Bedrock edition to teach.
However, it has not been possible to connect to Bedrock Edition through code connection since a few days ago.
Maybe it's because of the update of Bedrock Edition 1.18.30.
Is there a solution to this problem?
Danny your suggested link above refers to downloading Code Connection 1.4 and below... which is not available... since we are on version 1.50 and that is the only available anywhere for a while now.
And that is where the problem lays, which everyone is having since many months based on this very thread... and on and off for quite few years based on these other threads.
The problem is that when using Minecraft Bedrock Edition on Windows 10 and trying to connect the Code Connection app to it, so we can use the Microsoft MakeCode and anything other coding paradigm (like Tynker, Python, Javascript for that reason) the Code Connect app shoots an error saying to: "Please update this application to the latest version"... which already is the latest and only version available on the MS Store, or any other official links.
Even on the Microsoft MakeCode very site where are the most updated instructions and links (referring to Code Connect 1.50) to setup MakeCode for Minecraft it includes Minecraft for Windows 10... but as everyone is telling, me included, that is NOT working.
Here included are some Screenshots:
P.S.: as you can see from the last screenshot, the MS Store has some weird or maybe outdated information about the Release Date of this app being 3/27/2017... and the support for the many year old versions of Minecraft and Minecraft Education Edition??... but not the latest??
We have had some users report that starting this week they are able to use Code Connection. Please check and see if there is any pending updates or if the issue has changed at all for you. Please bear with us.
Hi, actually Code Connection still not woring on latest Win10 MC 1.19.0, it has been 5 months when this issue occured and reported here, our school stopped teaching MC programming for 5 months and kids were very upset for that, plz help to fix it, cause we all love MC programming.
Danny Can I presume that although I have bought the BedRock edition microsoft would like to force us onto the educational edition if we want to use code connect because I don't think anyone has the intention to fix the issue. Perhaps you guys should just state it clearly in the popup that code connect has been discontinued for bedrock and that its only supported by the educational edition. This will clear up a lot of confusion. The minecraft universe with all it java and bedrock and mobile and all additions is allready confusing enough as it is. :-)
P
Is there a download link that I'm not aware of then?
Because I tested the Windows store version (the only one i could find) just yesterday myself, with my up to date Minecraft Bedrock for win10, and it gave me the "Please update" message.
Hi Danny
Pls see my windows, connect and minecraft version. As far as I know both minecraft and connect are on the latest versions. Not seeing update notices for them.
I also notice now that the connect popup does mention Education Edition. It used to work on the bedrock edition.
I've hit this problem as well, and found a solution.
The problem is that Code Connection (v1.50) doesn't work with the latest versions of Minecraft Bedrock (v1.18 or v1.19). And it gives a rather misleading error: "Please update this application to the latest version".
However it's still possible to use Code Connection with Microsoft Bedrock by installing the older v1.17 version of Minecraft. The following steps worked for me.
There is a test and some info that might help. Make sure you have operator status before trying any code. When using Code Connection with bedrock, whether or not the user has pressed the play button in Makecode, typing the command 'chicken' will automatically close the chat window, so you'd expect something to happen with code. However, the code will actually only execute if the player has pressed the Play button in MakeCode (which could be an easy thing to overlook if you're accustomed to using CodeBuilder in Minecraft Education. There are some upcoming patches from the Bedrock Edition and Education Edition that may help. Beyond that there is no Dev update that they have provided us. I hope that helps.
Thanks Dominic, but I feel that the logical step for devs is to ditch Code Connection and push everyone towards payed Minecraft EE if they want to use these extra functionalities. The M:EE licencing is desing for that now, so there is no problem like it used to be.
David Yilma except that since the Minecraft education edition update to 1.18.32, a huge portion of the users can't do multiplayer class activities anymore and those that are able to connect regularly loose the connection to the game repeatedly in a single class session.
Minecraft is a game about breaking and placing blocks. At first, people built structures to protect against nocturnal monsters, but as the game grew, players worked together to create wonderful, imaginative things.
There are two separate editions of this game: Minecraft Java Edition, and Bedrock Edition. Java Edition is the original version of the game, starting development back in 2009. This edition can be played on Mac, Windows and Linux. Bedrock Edition was originally Pocket Edition, but has since been ported to different platforms. It is currently supported on Windows 10 and 11, Amazon FireOS and FireTV, Android, iOS, Xbox One, Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch and Samsung Gear VR devices. The Bedrock Edition client is not supported on Linux officially, but Bedrock server software is available.
The Minecraft client can be installed via the minecraft-launcherAUR package. It provides the official game launcher, a script to launch it and a .desktop file. The package is officially recommended by Mojang on their website.
A simpler way is to allow others to join your current Minecraft game. When playing, your Minecraft client also allows others to join the game in progress. Your client automatically broadcasts the info about your game on port 4445. It will also listen for TCP connections on which other players join. This TCP listening port is picked at random every time you start Minecraft. This works well if you do not have a firewall. But if your firewall blocks incoming TCP connections, then it is very tricky to allow this random port in.
The unofficial Bedrock Minecraft client can be installed by mcpelauncher-appimageAUR package. Alternatively, it can be compiled using mcpelauncher-linux-gitAUR package. The launcher can also be used by an app image provided on the GitHub page.
Minecraft Education can be used as an alternative way of running Minecraft with online features stripped out, since the code is mostly based on the Minecraft for Windows 10 edition (i.e. a win32 codebase).
To start the server, you may either use systemd or run it directly from the command line. Using systemd, you may start and enable the included minecraft-bedrock-server.service. Alternatively, run the following as the minecraft-bedrock user inside the /opt/minecraft-bedrock-server directory:
The configuration file server.properties contains the server settings and additional documentation. Most importantly, server-port determines the UDP port at which the server will listen for incoming connections. The default port is 19132 for IPv4, and 19133 for IPv6. UDP ports 43351 for IPv4 and 51885 for IPv6 are required for authentication.
There are several programs and editors which can make your Minecraft experience a little easier to navigate. The most common of these programs are map generators. Using one of these programs will allow you to load up a Minecraft world file and render it as a 2D image, providing you with a top-down map of the world.
Since you cannot read any of the menu options: in the main menu, choose the bottom-left most button is Options, second-from-the-bottom on the left side is the Language Button. From there, the Force Unicode Font button is on the bottom, on the left side.
The error could be caused by Java missing, which can be fixed by installing jdk8-openjdk.If the error is not fixed by that or Java was properly installed in the first place, the wrong version could still be the default environment:
