Hi there,

I've recently upgraded phones and am wondering how I can bring all the Memento libraries and data I have stored on the old phone to my new one?

Thanks
Emily

you could copy your entire /memento-directory over to the other device
Hope it helps!

I have found that the Backup then Restore works well for replicating the entire library to a second device.

Hi Emily

When you back up your database - Memento stores it in a folder called Memento on your SD card. If you have the Pro version it will also create a backup of your images and media associated with your database. Using a file explorer you can navigate to the folder and make a copy of the backup and transfer it to the Memento folder on your new phone and then use the import library function in Memento settings to bring them into your new phone.

Alternatively you can back Memento up with a backup app and transfer the backup to your new phone and then restore it.

Hi Emily
Open Memento Application
on " my libraries" screen select menu and then settings
About half way down the settings list you should see Backup
Select that and it will create a .db file of all of your memento databases and show you the path where it will be saved.
As mentioned by someone earlier if you have memento pro you will also  see an option to save all audio, images and other files.
Click ok when you are ready
Now you need to connect your phone to a computer and copy the memento_backup.db file onto the computer.
Now attach your new phone and copy the same file from your pc to your new phone into the same directory structure.
Now start memento on your new phone and go to settings and Restore.
You should see the copied file shown with date and time.
Select that and your database will be restored to Memento on your new phone.

Word of warning.... this worked fine for my database with one exception. I had a lot of contact fields in my original database entries which link directly to contacts on the phone. On the transferred database these were all out of sync and mixed up. Havent quite got to the bottom of it yet but its either because I had added a new contact to the new phone before transferring the database or because some contacts in the original database were from google, or outlook or linked in or whatever. Not sure how memento deals with this kind of thing but either way I had to reset the contacts manually. Only had 26 entries in database but some of them with 5 or 6 contacts it suddenly makes for a lot of manual re doing to get them showing the right entry.

My old phone still works but the screen is dead...  so can't navigate to the backup function in the app, I can only access the file system through usb. Is it possible to just grab the files that Memento is using and put them on the new phone? What files/folder(s) am I looking for?

Hook phone to your computer via USB. Get the memento folder and hook new phone to computer via USB.

Thanks for the reply!

Is all the data stored in the Memento folder? I see "backups" and "exports" and stuff, but I wasn't sure if that would include data that wasn't backed up yet.

I have the same problem. My tablet died and I've recovered the files from it, but can't get them to import to my phone. Any advice?

Also, all I see are 'backup' files, but I'm not sure if that is all of the data I had. Is there anywhere else where Memento stores data? Where does the data you enter go if you haven't 'formally' backed up? Presumably there must be spreadsheets or data stored somewhere, even if you haven't backed up.

Many thanks!

No need to do the transfer via your PC.

I followed the above procedure to make the backup, then simply used Gmail to send the file to myself as an attachment.  On my new device, I downloaded the file from Gmail, then followed the above procedure to restore the file.

My phone has been upgraded to Kitkat which causes all kinds of file access issues.  Does anyone know if that affects restoring from a back up?  I have upgraded Memento to the latest version, but my phone is unable to "see' the database file no matter where I put it.  I have tried both the internal memory and the external SD card. In all cases, Memento says the folder is empty even though I have confirmed there are .db files in the subdirectories.  The File Picker can't see them.

The current version of Memento doesn't have problems with Kit Kat.

The correct way to transfer the database is to use Memento's backup procedure, (Settings -> Backup) on your old phone.
If you have images etc. make sure you tick the box to back them up as well.
Transfer the backup file to /memento/backup on the new phone , then restore from the backup.

Thank you for the information.  Turns out my problem was that I wasn't putting the database file in the correct location on my phone.  Unfortunately, the reason I was copying the file was to try syncing to Google Docs.  The sync for one of my databases keeps failing from my tablet.  I hoped that I would have more success from my phone.  Unfortunately, that didn't turn out to be the case.  However, that isn't an issue for this thread, so I'll pursue that elsewhere in this forum.  Thanks for taking the time to respond.
